Romeo and Juliet: Death by Choice
Would you marry someone after knowing them for only a few hours? What if they were your family’s adversary? In most cases, the answer should be no. However in the story of “Romeo and Juliet,” the young couple, Romeo and Juliet, each from feuding families, decided to get married only a few hours after they met, fully knowing that both families will not approve. The end result of Romeo’s and Juliet’s poor decision to marry ultimately lead to their deaths. We believe that Romeo and Juliet’s untimely demise was the result of their imprudent choices. Those poor choices are because Romeo and Juliet are too young to have fully developed brains. Based on the article, “Decision Making is Still a Work in Progress for Teens”, Romeo and Juliet having underdeveloped frontal lobes which can lead to impulsive behavior and decisions. Because Romeo’s and Juliet’s brains were underdeveloped, they were unable to make prudent decisions that could have prevented their unfortunate deaths. …show more content…
However, this isn’t just a normal ball, it is the ball of his family’s enemy, the Capulets. When Romeo was at the ball, he sees whom he believes is the prettiest girl ever, Juliet. He decided to approach her and speak to her. Later on when Romeo finds out that Juliet is the sole daughter of the Capulet's, he does not think through the consequences that could come from loving her in the first place. However, Romeo ever meeting Juliet could have easily been avoided if he had been wise enough to stay away from the Capulet’s ball, knowing that the two families were sworn enemies. This alternate choice would have allowed Romeo and Juliet to find others to marry and, in the end, not
