Shadowing Reflection
My senior project was on shadowing Dr. Douglas Smith, he is an optometrist at the Bison Vision Center. I would watch him perform on his patients, while at the same time I was taking notes of every move he made while treating the patients. The shadowing was divided between 3 different sections, the first section was him doing paperwork, the paperwork was mostly government based. Secondly, it was fitting the glasses to the patient so they glasses would not slide of the person face. Lastly, it was the actual check up to the patient to see if they would need glasses, this would require 30 minutes of precise work and asking questions to best fit the patient needs. For the last 15 hours of my project, the planning and implementing was the same. I would go into his office ask questions about the job. For example, one day I asked “how are you able to enjoy this career for over 30 years” and he responded with “I don’t see patients as floating eyes, They have a brain, heart, and eyes”. So for the past 30 hours he would talk to me about the human side of optometry, and on the plus side I got great quotes from him. And the truth is shadowing is a practice of patience because everything is repetitive, …show more content…
But, the biggest change of the shadowing was going to the Rotary Club. The Rotary Club is a group of people who own their own business and donate money to charities. The meeting felt more like a cult gathering because they would chant a phrase in latin. After the phrase they would go to each table and introduce themselves and their guests, the moment they introduced me, I felt like a new member of the cult...but not wealthy. This was an experience that I’ll never forget because I was the only latino in that room and I want to change that for the best. That was the only addition I made to my project since I wrote Narrative 1. But this addition is one that motivates me to change the path of a club dominantly

The author’s identity conflict regarding his race extends beyond Latinos, as other minorities have encountered similar identity struggles in our cross-cultural society. Most importantly, because his story is based on general issues concerning dark complexion, racial slurs, and labor, this essay represents a variety of people. Altogether, Richard Rodriguez educates readers about the results of racism and prejudice in racial groups, and uses his experiences as an example of the injustices people of color face in the world…

    Zoot Suitors Summary

Throughout this story I feel like the theme that is stressed the most would be how Latin Americans had to deal with being discriminated against. Riots broke out between the Zoot Suiters and the public around the L.A. area during the WWII. Latinos were discriminated and accused of being criminals because of their skin and wild style of dressing They were known as the "Zoot Suitors". The suits that they wore had long, broad shouldered coats. Extra baggy pants that fit tight at the ankles. They wore a long chain pocket watch and a broad brimmed hat with a feather in it. This was how Pachucos dressed in their early years. This was how they felt they were able to express themselves but the public and the press tried to use their tradition against…

In the film The Scarlet and the Black, we see a different kind of priest portrayed. Fr. Hugh O’Flaherty is not your everyday pastor. After seeing what type of life he has lived, the priesthood may look appealing to many. He is constantly helping people and getting in and out of trouble. The situations he finds himself in may not necessarily be because he is a priest, but rather because of the type of person he is. Fr. O’Flaherty’s drive and desire to help people makes him a saint to many people. Many priests probably would not have gone to the extent that Fr. O’Flaherty went to in helping the soldiers. He was close to death many times, but continued to fight for freedom. Some parts of this film, to me, seemed over done in the idea that Fr. O’Flaherty was some type of superhero. There is no doubt in my mind that he was an awesome person and helped many people, but do I believe that he fought evil ninja priests? Not necessarily.…

Many individuals told me that if I would not put thought into the topic of my senior project, I would never enjoy it. And they were correct, I have seen so many people do nothing but complain about the twenty hours they have to forge. Fortunately for me, I did not have to do that. I had no troubles getting the twenty hour requirement for this project, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Through my project log, I will describe how I decided my project, who I decided on as my mentor and why, how I completed my project, and what I learned from doing so.…

If I were to do this project over there would be many things I would have done differently. I would have gotten started earlier on the project, also would have tried to make myself more useful, for a lot of things I was not there for. Not only because of my work schedule, but because my group had only told me about two thing we were doing. That was going to Houston to interview Le, and a meeting at corner bakery going over everything. The meeting I was unfortunately unable to attend because of work. But I myself thought that the 20 hours…
