“Giraffes now rarer than elephants”, by Seth Borenstein is an article which focuses on giraffes and how they are becoming extinct. The eminent giraffes aren’t so famous anymore. Giraffes are decreasing in number and are at risk of becoming extinct. Most often animals slowly begin to become extinct but with the giraffe it’s a different story. In the last thirty years the giraffe population has dropped by nearly forty percent. Nobody thinks the giraffes are becoming extinct because we see them at places like the zoo. This is called a silent extinction. Its when an animal is becoming extinct but nobody seems to notice. Scientists say the reason these animals are becoming extinct is because of habitat loss from where

As Martin Buber once said, “an animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language”. As the years go by, numerous animals are becoming extinct by man’s lack of compassion. They used to roam freely, without fear, in the wild, although; with rising population, the wilderness is no longer their home. Therefore, the animals are forced to share their land with uncompassionate humans. One example is the Borneo Pygmy Elephant found in Southeast Asia. Their thriving population has diminished to less than 1,500 in the past years. An analysis of the endangered Borneo Pygmy Elephant shows their characteristics and habitat, what is threatening them, and how they can be saved.…

Anthropomorphism is “the attribution of human characteristics or behaviour to god, animal or object.” In this specific short story “ The Giraffe” Mauro Senesi has used this technique to frame the character of Giraffe. There were many human characteristics or behaviour given to the Giraffe in the story. But this may not mean that if an object or an animal character is given human attribution, that they also have lines (no talking is required). This is simply a way for audience to feel the kind of emotions and feelings in the character. In another way it allows the audience to connect with the characters. Currently, this will allow the audience to understand the character more. This specific example of figure of speech is commonly used in…

Stuart Pimm offers a degree in Conservation Ecology from Duke University. His Argument focuses largely on humans are not ready for De-Extinction in that since humans were the ones that pushed them to disappear, they are not going to want those species back. He gives the example that “hunters at [the Pyrenean ibex] to extinction. Reintroduce a resurrected ibex to the area where it belongs and it will become the most expensive cabrito every eaten.” He notes that the problem is whether we can resurrect these species or not, but more along the lines of whether the rest of the population will accept the animals back in their original homes. He also believes that De-Extinction “seduces” those granting research money and support into thinking they are doing well when it simply gives “unscrupulous developers a veil to hide their rapaciousness, with promises to fix things later.”…

Imagine walking through a American airport and you notice a woman’s skirt flapping up and down. At first thought you think nothing of it, but at second glance you you see feathers falling to the floor and two beautiful toucan parrots trying to make a last chance escape from the airport. One would think this never happens, but in all actuality these toucan parrots were drugged with dangerous tranquilizers and are a long ways from home. These birds are just a fraction of the ten billion dollar industry ones come to know as animal smuggling in North America (Smithsonian Magazine). With more than thirty eight million different species being smuggled into the states each year wildlife officers and custom officials have there hands full on tackling this huge pandemic. Animal smuggling is classified as the third most valuable illicit commerce in the world, according to the U.S. State Department (Smithsonian Magazine). Animal trafficking is an illegal form of modern day slavery. Animals are not property and they are unfortunately being used in many different ways. The first major threat that will cause Sumatran rhinos to be extinct during our lifetime is habitat loss. Sumatran rhinos are losing their habitat because forests are being cleared in order to convert the land for other uses, and because the construction of logging roads makes areas more accessible to poachers. For example, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia (which is estimated to have the largest amount of Sumatran rhinos) is still losing forest cover because illegal settlers are converting the forest for coffee and rice. In addition, Since Sumatran rhinos inhabit the remaining pockets of forest, they become even more vulnerable to environmental disasters, disease, and poaching.…

The main reasons that the Cheetahs are now part of the endangered species is due to the fact that there is excessive hunting and a declination of their habitat. As wild sheeps, goats, and gazelles are being overhunted, these cheetahs are unable to live in the same habitat as these animals are their main source of food. Also, human settlement in the semi-arid foothills have taken over the cheetahs’ living spaces. And as humans settle, they are bound to start an agricultural life, causing soil to erode and livestock to overgraze the region that the cheetahs’ preys would eat. And as people fear or find cheetahs to be a threat to their agriculture, they simply hunt these precious animals.…

Rhinos are unique animals. There are 6 different rhino species (The White, Black, The greater one horned, Sumatran and the Javan Rhinos) around the world South Africa is home to two the Black and White Rhinos. Rhinos are more closely related to horses as opposed to elephants. They are massive, hoof creatures with extremely thick skin, bulky, strong bodies and at least one horn that extend from their noses. They are timid herbivores who have poor eyesight; they therefore rely on their senses of hearing and smell. Rhinos are close to extinction if we do not save and help them they might become extinct as Rhinos only give birth once every 2 – 4 years. We are killing Rhinos faster therefore there is not enough time to reproduce. This could affect our rhinos and kill them for ever.…
