This mission reminds us that for the Kingdom of God to continue to break in, individual lives need to be changed, while being motivated and equipped for transformation. Our Book of Discipline offers this cue: “God has used our church to save persons, heal relationships, transform social structures, and spread scriptural holiness, thereby changing the world.” When we change lives and introduce people to the all-loving nature of God, we indeed transform the world. When making disciples, the Church welcomes people into community, educates them on God’s call for Christians, and equips them toward using their spiritual gifts to serve as change agents playing a role in bringing about the Kingdom of…

For this project, I am placing myself in a hypothetical context as a staff pastoral counselor at my home church in Valley City, ND, serving a congregation of approximately 200. I have chosen as my overarching goal for life to serve others in the capacity for which the Lord has gifted me and prepared me to counsel and minister to them. 1 Peter 4:9 tells us that, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” I believe that serving in a counseling role is my gift, and that it is my calling to use that gift to serve others, and in doing so, to obey God.…

In my current role at Palm Beach Count Food Bank, I have the opportunity to feed people in need. I would love to continue to volunteer on a regular basis, because it changes me, and me perspective. We tend to think of what is not going right in our lives, but when we are intentional about putting others first, a thankful heart starts to develop. For that reason, I think it is crucial to be selfless and focus on the needs of others. I am not saying to neglect one’s needs of family, but to take time to acknowledge all the blessings the Lord has given to us in order to bless others. “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” (Hebrews 6:10,…

When one hears the term servant, it is usually associated with the Bible since it clearly indicates that all Disciples of Christ or believers are servants. Servant is defined as “a person working in the service of another”. When Robert K. Greenleaf first defined the phrase “Servant Leadership” he pointed out that the difference between it and leader was “a servant aspiring to serve and taking up leadership as result” (Greenleaf, 1977). Leader is defined as a person who rules or guides or inspires others. Being considered as a servant first, a servant leader’s priority is to lead in a way that they are serving others by developing them as well as giving their undivided attention to their colleagues and those they serve (Spears, 1998). Taking into consideration Greenleaf’s characteristics of servant leadership and the Biblical doctrine as well other philosophies, we will explore the idea that the Servant Leadership is “compatible with most religions and theories of philosophy.”…

Service to the Church is an important aspect of our Church life. We should all do this, as God calls us to do so. However, we shouldn’t limit ourselves to the Church. We should also serve the community, to be a good citizen of our country. Serving the community is also serving the Church because Jesus states we must treat others as we want to be treated. Serving the Church and community teaches moral values that are important to life.…

Service Is the Highest Sadhana Avatars (divine incarnations) of God are engaged in seva (service) that is why Avatars happen. Hence, when you offer seva to mankind, the Avatars will naturally be pleased and you can win Grace.1Seva is the highest sadhana (spiritual discipline), for God Himself takes human form and comes down to serve mankind and lead it to the ideals it has ignored. Therefore consider how delighted God will be when man serves man 2We are familiar with the concept of an Avatarwhen God takes birth in human form to re-establish dharma or put back righteousness in its high place thus doing service to the world. The omnipresent Lord, in the form of Krishna, served Arjuna as a charioteer. Not only this, but after His work as charioteer was over for the day, He used to take the tired horses to the river and wash them. In that manner he was prepared to work even as a cleaner. At that time, Vyasa looked at the Lord and felt that many great persons did not get the fortune which the horses had at the divine hands.3 The Lord Sets the Example for Devotees to Follow When the Rajasuya yaga (sacrifice) was being performed, Krishna came and asked Dharmaraja to allot some work to Him. Dharmaraja turned to Krishna and said that there was no work appropriate to Krishna and that if Krishna would himself indicate what work was suitable to Him, that will surely be allotted to Him. Krishna went close to Dharmaraja, patted him on the back, and said that he has a special qualification and that He would like to do work appropriate to His qualification. Dharmaraja could not make anything out of this. So Dharmaraja asked Krishna to tell him what His special qualification was so that he can find suitable work for Krishna. He said that He was fit for removing the leaves in which people ate their food and which have been once used. Because after people eat their food in the leaves, they become somewhat unclean, and if those leaves are not removed they create some dislike in the…
