Serial killers are not typically thought of as accepted members of society in the eyes of the mainstream public. Thoughts and opinions of serial killers can change if one looks deeper into the reasoning behind their murders. Some of the various reasons why serial killers commit murder are; because of a traumatic event or an abusive childhood that directly influences the way the killer perceives other individuals, because they feel something internally that forces or drives them to kill somewhat like an addiction, and because they feel a need for justice like a vigilante.
