September 11th
Should September the Eleventh Be A National Holiday?

On September 11th 2001, the United States was attacked by terrorists who decided to try to crash 4 planes full of passengers into targets that they felt could cause the most damage to our country. The succeeded by crashing into Towers one and two of the World Trade center, the Pentagon, and a field in New Jersey. They killed over 3,000 people, mostly civilians, who had no chance to defend themselves. Now, one year later, there is question about whether or not this date should be made into a holiday or remain a day of remembrance. Although having a holiday to remember the lives lost in these tragic events may be justifiable, I think that it would be morbid to get a day off, a holiday, celebrating a momentous loss of life.

Today Labor Day, Memorial Day, and other such holidays are days of shopping sales and fun. People go out and have barbeques and parties on these days. If 9-11 were made into a day-off who can say whether or not it will remain a day of remember the tragic events of that day. Other such attacks, such as the bombings of the USS Cole, the embassies in Africa, Khowar Towers in Saudi Arabia, and the previous attach on the WTC building, haven't had a holiday named after them. Even The Oklahoma City bombing does not have a holiday. Although these in no way can compare to the loss of life and devastation of 9-11, they are still horrible events that should also be remembered. 9-11 should not be made a holiday that will slowly lose its significance over the years. It should be a day to remember the precious lives lost and as a day the world found out that the United States will not sit by and let terrorists do whatever they want to

There are many similarities and differences between the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. One attack was committed by terrorists and the other was committed by a government. After Pearl Harbor, we entered a world war, and after the terrorist attacks, we invaded another country. Both Attacks were grave threats to our national security.…

The hearts of many Americans were broken the moment the tips of the planes collided with the buildings. The life of the daily American was completely shattered throughout these “102 minutes that changed the world.” Sad to say, 9/11 will always be equated with the loss of many lives and the destruction of many families. It will always generate a feeling of insecurity and because of such, none of our lives will ever be "normal" as it was before 9/11. It will remind us how fragile life is and that because of other entities larger than themselves, our children and loved ones will and have died to fight a war that many of us will never really know the real reason behind it.…

    Patriot Day

Patriot Day is the most important holiday of the year because on this day, not only do we remember the people that were killed in the worst terrorist attack on American soil, we also honor those who serve and have given their lives in the fight against terrorism. On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked; two of the planes hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center, one hit the Pentagon, and the other crashed in a field in Pennsylvania (https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/patriot-day/). Nearly 3,000 people were killed in this horrific attack. The attack was done by a radical Muslim organization called Al-Qaeda. This is a day we should never forget because this attack was not just against the people that were killed but against our entire country. There are many important holidays but this is the only one that has united all of America and captivated the entire nation as a whole. It is also a National Day of Service and Remembrance where people honor veterans, soldiers, or first responders by giving them donations, care packages and writing thank you letters for them (http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/History-American/September11.shtml). I can honestly say that everyone that I have ever talked to about what happened on 9/11 knows exactly where they were and what they were doing on this day. This holiday brought us together as a nation in a way that no other holiday does today.…

    9/11: Whose Fault Is It?

“The September 11, 2001 attacks were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks upon the United States of America carried out on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Four commercial airliners were hijacked and crashed, resulting in the deaths of nearly 3,000 civilians in the planes and on the ground. On that morning, nineteen hijackers, affiliated with al-Qaeda[2], crashed two planes into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in Manhattan, New York City, and within two hours both towers collapsed. A third hijacked plane crashed into the Pentagon, in Arlington County, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed into a rural field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. None of the passengers survived (wikipedia)”. Just to think for a moment if on September 11, 2001, the attacks were not committed by hijackers that are affiliated with Al-Qaeda, but instead through a fierce thunderstorm and lightning, that just happens to occur in New York, and caused planes to malfunction and crash land, on the twin towers which happens to be the nearest building for luck sake. Of course the day will still be one of the worst days in American history, and the families of the deceased will be grieving and suffering, only with a big difference. There will be no war in Afghanistan and probably not in Iraq, because the American population will not be seeking punishment for the perpetrators of the attacks. Now when we try to figure out what is the difference between these two beliefs, it is because we think that the attacks were pre-meditated, and carried out on the free-will of the hijackers, and their leaders who operate the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization.…

I remember September 11, 2001 like it happened two days ago. This was the day terrorists decided to attack our nation. I remember the panic and the feeling of the world crumbling around you. Each year I turn on the tv to watch the memorial ceremony for the nearly 3,000 lives that were tragically lost. I see the endless tears of parents, friends, and loved ones grieving their heroes 14 years later. Each year the facts never change, what happened on that Tuesday will never change or make anyone feel any better. For one day a year the entire nation is reminded of a time when something precious was stolen from us, and for families who had something irreplaceable stolen from them. I was seven years old on that day, and it has forever changed me. I’ll never forget watching those two giant Legos burn and feeling so unbelievably sad without yet understanding…

This cowardly attack changed the course of history for the United States as well as the rest of the world. The aftershock of this tragedy rippled out from New York City, Washington DC, and a remote field in Pennsylvania to places on the other side of the world, in countries like Afghanistan, and Pakistan. September 11th 2001 began just like any other day but no one could imagine the horrific nightmare that would unfold that morning.…

As I remember, September 11, 2001 was a bright, crisp morning in many regions of the United States, which was shattered when the nation was attacked by terrorist. It all began at around 8:46 a.m. Eastern time when American Airlines Flight 11 was flown into the World Trade Center. At first, many believed the event to be an accident, simple pilot error. There Is Only One Story

September 11, 2001. I was a three year old preschool student. The kid who sat next to me stuck crayons in his nose and the girl in my play group always made me be the dog when we played house. That day was part of many that began my life. The same exact day that ended the lives of thousands of people and ruined those of others. The same exact day that a widow now calls into work and lays in bed for hours; because if not for this day thirteen years ago she would still roll over and find next to her a man that she had built her life with, a man she loved and cherished with every fiber of her soul. A mother now takes the long way home so she doesn’t have to drive by her son’s old apartment anymore. Her biggest regret is pushing him to move out and pursue an adult life. If not for that, her baby wouldn’t have become a volunteer fireman on the side of his college career after moving out. She would give anything to be able to yell at him for playing too many video games and leaving the toilet seat up, just one more time. What about the children who send balloons to heaven on Mother’s and Father’s Day? The fact that Osama Bin Laden is dead will never change the countless men and women who went into a building and ran up stairwells as that same building fell on top of them. Prejudices against Muslims and Middle Eastern natives will never heal the parents who put flowers on their child’s grave every year for his birthday. Making misery out of tragedy will not mend the brokenhearted. Each human who witnessed, experienced, or became victim to September 11, 2001, has their own story, their own way of mourning. But, why do we mourn? Why do we fly our flag especially high on this day? Because our country was struck by a conflict we thought was unbearable. And although we will never be the same, I think we will be okay. With that, I believe our country focuses too much on finding the answers…
