Self Reflective Report
Within the 6-year experience in providing the palliative care for the patient with cerebral palsy I became confident in communicating with other health professionals to discuss patient's health status and to develop the most appropriate treatment for the patient. I have also developed self-confidence and empathy towards others during the 4-year experience in customer service, while working as a bartender. Interacting with customers during busy night-shifts provided me with an opportunity to develop problem solving and stress management skills, and to learn acting patient and calm in uncomfortable situations. My social skills further developed during my trip around the world. The patient suffered from severe metabolic disorders and required enteral feeding using both percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy and jejunostomy. Additional standard feeding was implemented using formula milk and a soft diet. I was responsible to prepare feeds and operate a feed pump. Frequent nutritional screening (including weight monitoring, blood test analysis and clinical symptoms analysis) was required to modify portion sizes and deliver appropriate nutrition to the patient.

Quality improvement is a technique used to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and the quality of services provided by the health industry. The whole approach is based on the Act Cycle which consists of the four main stages, including plan for improvements, implementing changes, evaluating outcomes, and making changes and identifying new improvements. In order to effectively incorporate such an approach into daily practice, it is essential to perform specific behaviours such as openness to failure, willingness to learn and share experiences, as well as having an ability to work within a team.
As a professional I am always looking for challenges and I am willing to perform at the highest level possible; therefore, creating the best environment and providing a high standard care are my priorities when working with

    To overcome the barriers mentioned health care providers must form an attitude and acquire the skills that are necessary to implement quality improvement in healthcare. Once employees possess this, they are able to use the three steps discussed on how to improve. In addition, change agents, people who are needed to change the results a system produces, if they are able to work together and help improve the system, then patients and customers will have a better experience.
