Self-Reflection Worksheet

Respond to the following in 200-300 words each.

1. While considering the different theories of motivation, describe your personal motivation for attending college. How much of your motivation is extrinsic, intrinsic, and neutral? From what you have read, how might you change your motivation? Which motivational theory applies most to your situation? Explain why.

Most of my motivation would have to be extrinsic. I am being motivated by the rewards after I finish working on my degree. My personal motivation leans on extrinsic. I want to be able to provide for my family and still have enough left over for myself. There are things I want and the things that I need and working and successfully getting a degree will allow me to do that. The wants are the basic definition of extrinsic motivation. The extrinsic motivation allows for me to see the result. All rewards and no punishment. I will be able to say that I accomplished something that I never thought I would be able to accomplish. Some of my motivation does come from intrinsic motivation too though. I decided on this degree for employment reasons. I really enjoy working on computers, I spend a lot of time during the day on a computer so I figured why not go to school, get a degree that involves computers and get paid to do what I enjoy doing most. The intrinsic motivation gives me the urge to continue working on my degree to work on computers. My motivation may change by instead of having the urge to work on getting a degree just because I enjoy working on computers. I feel as if a degree would be best in order for me to find a well-paying job to support myself and my family.

2. Describe two specific emotions you have experienced, one pleasant and one unpleasant. Select two theories of emotion and evaluate these emotions based on those theories. Which emotion best accounts for your emotional experiences? Why?

A pleasant emotion I have experienced is

My motivation for achieving this goal is based on the fact that this is my second college and failing is not an option. My intrinsic motivation for graduating would have to be my love for helping others in need. In order for me to achieve my career goal I would first have to achieve my academic goal. Reward or not the feeling that I get from being able to see people feel better and helping the ones in need is more than enough. My extrinsic motivation would have to be my family. I want to show them that I can reach my goal because not finishing my first college an degree gave them the impression that I wouldn 't do anything with my life and by accomplishing this goal it would make them so proud of me and shocked and that 's what I want.…
