Self Fulfilling Prophecy Research Paper
Self-fulfilling prophecy is defined in the textbook as “when a person’s expectations of an event, and his or her subsequent behavior is based on those expectations, make an outcome more likely to occur than would otherwise been true” (Watzlawick, 2005). A recent event that I happened to impose this is when I took my car to get it checked it, the mechanic told me that a part that controls the steering wheel was badly damaged and that if I kept driving the car in that condition, my steering wheel won’t work and it could cause a major accident. Well I thought to myself “I won’t have any problems, I’ll get it fixed sooner or later”, and while I was driving in the morning for school, I started to think about what the mechanic told me, and I suddenly became nervous and worried, then out of nowhere the steering wheel stopped working but luckily, I managed to stop my car on the …show more content…
Other times it felt as if I dodged a bullet because my day wouldn’t go out the way I thought it would, since I’m very pessimistic. It all depends on how my behavior a certain day is, or how I wake up feeling on the start of a new day. If I wake up feeling sick or upset, then my behavior will be based on those expectations and it would probably turn at bad without me even knowing my prediction became true. I just try to live each day carefully without trying to judge how it’ll be.

The more I answer these questions It definitely changes the way I’ll talk to myself in the future. It gives me a different view on how I thought things back in the past, but now I know that I need to be more optimistic and approach situations carefully than just immediately thinking it’ll end the way I think. After reading about what Self- fulling prophecy is, I will slowly start to change on how i'll speak to myself from now on. Won't be easy, but its never to late to change some things in my

In addition to this the concept self fulfilling prophecy takes the process of labelling a step further as based on the label teachers make prediction about pupils which usually come true simply by the fact they were made. The reason it interacts with labelling is that it changes the pupils self image by bringing it in line with the expectation others expect him/her to fulfil.…

The role theory is similar to the self-fulfilling prophecy because in this theory, we live within a particular society, culture and norms that influence people differently. For instance, the roles we’re in would influence our behavior e.g. a nurse is expected to be competent and warm while surgeons would be expected to be competent not necessarily warm.…

The prophecy in which you become something because you are told or an assumption is made about a certain something that can reflect your behaviors towards that target, person, or event. The self-fulfilling prophecy happens when persons are presented with a situation or task which makes them feel overwhelmed and they are unable to process how to efficiently complete it. While the self-fulfilling prophecy can be placed upon an individual themselves, it is also that others can determine the outcome behavior when placing their expectations on them. Ultimately, what we do and how we behave hinges largely upon our conviction about what we are and what we can do. (Raman) There are two different forms of self-fulfilling prophecies, positive and negative, both which can determine behavioral results. The positive self-fulfilling prophecy is known as the Pygmalion Effect and the negative self-fulfilling prophecy is known as the Golem…

I definitely feel that I try to stay on the positive side to life and its challenges. Self-fulfilling prophecies. What does that mean? Where could you find it? More often then not, one's life can be largely based on self-fuflilling prophecies. "A self-fulfilling prophecy occurs when a person's expectations of an event, and her or his subsequent behavior based on those expectations, make the outcome more likely to occur than would otherwise have been true." In other words, it means that if you believe that you are able to do something, then you are likely to succeed, whereas if you believe that you cannot do something, then you are more likely to fail. One self-fulfilling prophecy is when I was fifteen years old. I had always wanted to play guitar and had finally received one that year. I didn't have…

The idea of self-fulfilling prophecy states that a belief about the future will eventually cause that belief to come true. The idea is that a person will unknowingly behave in ways that, when combined over years, determines their outcome. For instance, some studies show that professional sports players are generally born in months that childhood leagues set as the cut-off between years. The biggest players tend to be the oldest, and have the biggest advantage in sports at a young age. They grow up believing they are the best on the team, and even those around them support their beliefs. Despite having no actual advantage in the long-run, these players will work harder and behave in ways that eventually lead them to become a professional athlete. On the other side, players that were always younger (and smaller) are less likely to be seen as the best players, and they have less of a chance at becoming an athlete.…

Yesterday was a “good” day. First, I woke up in a great mood, dressed my myself and my son, took him to daycare, then I went to work. While driving in the car, I can remember thinking, gosh I need a new vehicle! I get to work, grab a bagel and a cup of tea. Then, I hear my supervisor tell me, “were short staff today so your on the drive thru”! I hate working the drive but my positive attitude was not going to allow that to ruin my day. So after I have my bagel, I unlock my cash vault and begin my morning regimen to start the busy Friday. I take a deep breath and say to myself, I feel good today so assuming attitudes are contagious my customers should feel good too, right?... Something in my mind told me that even though I was in such high spirits, some sort of catastrophe was going to turn my day from one extreme to the next. Optimism was no match for the obstacles to come my way on this day. I was not surprised when it went from good, to bad, to worst.…
