Selective Compensation Strategies
Most adults in their middle ages go through a lot of stress, issues, and health problems and often can not manage these problems. Sometimes people have the tendency to let these issues drive their lives around. It is best that middle aged people are informed of ways to prevent these situations to take over their lives. Even though middle aged people face issues, they have to find ways to prevent those issues from destroying their lives such as; knowing how to deal with declines, ways to be a healthy person, and most important being happy.

The best way of knowing to control or deal with declines, ways to be healthy, and being happy is by using a strategy called, Selective Optimization and Compensation. These strategy can be used by adults to

Next, optimization associates with focusing attention to relevant information while ignoring irrelevant information. Also, optimization includes continuing in the face of challenges, focusing where to put energy, and making effort towards goal attainment. Lastly, compensation is associated with using external resources and support, learning new skills, and recognizing that it takes a lot of effort and time to obtain goals.

According to Baltes, Lindenberger & Staudinger, 1998, these strategies can help middle aged people to continue functioning in current levels. This cognitive strategy is very well applied in promoting successful aging. Freund & Baltes, 1998, indicate that these strategies are helpful because there is satisfaction with aging, there is decreased emotional loneliness, and there are also increases with positive emotions.

Middle Adulthood faces many issues like, declines and health problems, but there are ways to prevent these issues from taking over their lives. For example, using the selective optimization and compensation strategies will help middle aged people with being more positive about their life. After all, middle adulthood is difficult, but there are always ways to prevent certain situations to drive your life

    According to research, elderly people who exercise at least once a week, have at least a high school education, and are more socially active are more likely to maintain their cognitive skills. In addition, I believe staying on top of the new technologies is a good way to jog the brain and maintain mental functions.
