Topic: Sedentary Lifestyle “Humans are designed to move, not to stay still” (Weiler and Stamatakis, 2010, p#2). It says that people are made to be physically active and not to be a sluggard, which is known to have a sedentary lifestyle. A sedentary lifestyle is a lifestyle with insufficient or irregular physical activities. It is commonly found in both the developed and developing counties. This essay discusses sedentary lifestyle to illustrate its differences from the normal lifestyle, to cite exemplifications, and to discuss its outcomes. There are differences between a sedentary lifestyle and a normal lifestyle. In this lifestyle a person does not engage in sufficient physical activities or exercises for what is generally considered healthy living (Wiesein, 2003). Sedentary lifestyle have long been regarded as self-inflicted conditions with largely personal consequences, this lifestyle is a choice among people who will face medical risks (Manson, Skerret, Greenland, and Vanitallie, 2004). There are different examples of sedentary lifestyle activities among people. First are the workers who shifted from physical labor to office jobs increases them the tendency toward having a sedentary lifestyle (Wiesein, 2003). These people are the one who spend all day scrunched in a chair doing their office works (Deschamps, 2012). Also, people who are always depending on escalators, elevators, and other modes of transportation which causes them lack of exercise are also at risk (CBC News, 2011). Second are the inactive types of entertainment which leads people to an unhealthy lifestyle (Weisein, 2003). For example are people who watch the television for a long time will have insufficient exercise which leads to some health problems (Manson, et.al, 2004). People always come up with excuses to get out of exercising, such as believing it will not hurt too much to miss one day or that they do not have time to exercise.
