Sectionalism In America
In American History we are currently studying the concept sectionalism. Sectionalism is division within a country based on regional beliefs and interests. In the early 1800’s, sectionalism in america grew as slavery divided the Nation. Slavery was ignored, compromised, and argued about by the states until the conflict drove our country into the Civil War. Although regional differences are not as distinct these days, many issues are currently causing division among the states and people of our country. These issues lead to what our history class describes as “modern sectionalism.” One such issue is gay marriage.
Most of the conflict about gay marriage is online and on social media. I have read many articles mostly about how religion ties into …show more content…
I do not believe in the bible and I am allowed to marry in any church or place with open arms in the name of God. Everyone takes this argument to the bible, how many mothers kick their children out for being gay is growing everyday. 1 Timothy 5:8 Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. From what I have read online and from the parents words and what they have written they are christian. They are worse than an unbeliever, worse than me, And I believe that anybody can love no matter what race, religion, how old you are you can still love. What if being gay was normal and being straight was a sin? You would be sinning everyday and you know what you would feel. Bad you would wanna kill yourself, you wouldn't wanna be yourself anymore because everyone hates you. Or you would live through it and be the happiest person on the planet and nobody could stop you. The bible was written by a bunch of guys. People can not be made from clay, someone can not be made of dust. I went to church and I sang for people, I never paid attention to the pastor because well I did not believe in the bible. He spoke about how anyone who loved the same gender as themselves would be burned in hell for all eternity. I got up right in the middle of his speech and left that room. My uncle was sent to prison for flirting with a man in a bar, My other uncle had to get a divorce with his husband and their children were taken away because people would riot outside there house and they put the kids lives at danger. What's so wrong with gay marriage anyhow? Are they touching you, bothering you, are they trying to turn you? No so leave them alone. In human nature I do believe that we all want to outrank each other and be better. Christians

    The country was divided into two groups, which were known as slave holders and abolitionists. Due to the desire of the south they wanted to acquire slaves for cheap, the North didn’t feel at ease with the situation, so the two groups were separated geographically. On the other hand, the North was not any economy based off agriculture or unskilled laborers because there economy was not dependent upon slaves. The North felt that there was no need for slaves, and they didn’t see slavery as fair or dignified. The South relied on slaves as a base of production; they use them to operate large farms and large cotton plantations. Many people tried to come up with a solution to the issue of slavery with compositions and bills that lay down laws to come into agreement with both sides. What made it happen was the Missouri Compromise. This document was able to set the standards during the time. It was also able to divide the country into two different groups geographically by a system called the 36 degree 30 minute line. This bill clearly stated that no states above the proposed line shall have slavery, with exception to those already in existence. This meant that all new states being brought into the country from different directions had an opportunity to have slavery if they lay below the line.     Many churches preached against gay rights, saying things like, “Homosexuals are sinners, god didn’t want this, and my favorite, god made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” “Leviticus 20:13 - If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.” (Bible). When people read things like this in the bible it’s basically telling them it’s okay to discriminate against others, such as homosexuals. It is so wrong that the bible consists of sch horrible, degrading passages, saying if a man is in sexual relations with another man they should be put to death. The bible also states, “Leviticus 18:22 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.” Don’t get me wrong I see no problem believing in god, but I don’t believe people should take the bible as serious as they do. The bible doesn’t only talk about discrimination against homosexuality, it also talks about how women must listen to their husbands, and different foods you shouldn’t eat because if you don’t obey the bible you are going to hell. Leviticus 19:27 reads, “You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.” That’s basically saying you can’t cut your hair or you’re going to hell, which is complete stupidity. The bible also states, “You are to keep my statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.” The bible just has ridiculous “laws” that you must abide by like not mixing two fabrics, therefore saying you can’t wear polyester.     Despite our country’s youth, the United States has continued time and time again to erase the boundaries of social inequality so that we may progress forward in hopes of establishing the more perfect union our preamble suggests. In Jonathan Rauch’s “For Better or Worse,” he attempts to persuade his readers to favor gay marriage by reevaluating and tearing apart the controversial notions from which it’s oppressors build their foundation. Notwithstanding the position Rauch takes a stance for, his criteria and opinionated basis for the concept of marriage fails to deliver any hope in persuading a reader in becoming more favorable for gay marriage.…
