Secret Life of Bees In literature as in life, conflicts can be resolved in unexpected ways. In the Secret Life of Bees a 14 year old girl by the name of Lilly is living with her abusive father on a peaches farm in South Carolina in 1964. She later runs away with her housekeeper Rosaleen after she was arrested and beaten and start living on a honey farm in Tiburon South Carolina. There she finds out that her mother once stayed in the house. After a while she gets in contact with her dad and stays at the honey farm. The conflict in the story that is solved unexpectedly is that Lilly had an unhappy life in Sylvan than ran away and found happiness living with the Boatwright sisters in Tiburon S.C. When Lilly was living with her father in Sylvan she would ask about her mother. Her father had told her that one day her mom returned to pick up her clothes and planned to leave Lilly behind. Her father also told her that she killed her mother. the truth is that none of these things were true but her father was saying these things to hurt Lilly. That is why Lilly was so unhappy living with her father. One day Rosaleen Lilly's housekeeper is on her way to register to vote when a group of racist men confront her. Rosaleen ends up being arrested and beaten. When Lilly decides to run away she finds Rosaleen at the hospital and they run away to Tiburon. There they look for the honey maker with the black Mary picture. They find the house where the Boatwright sisters live and they invite them to live with them and help them with the bees. That is how they started living in Tiburon. After living in the Boatwright house for a while Lilly contacts her dad. Her dad arrives in Tiburon and Lilly talks to him about what had happened. She settles everything with her father and the Boatwright’s convince her dad to let her stay there.
