Second Chances
They make us who we are. It's a known fact that all people make mistakes, do things that are wrong by the outlook of society, and are left up to "second chances". This could be a blessing or a curse. Blessings for the people who use their chance for the better, to advance from their loss, to make up for lost ground, and regain a grip on life. Some will grow mentally and go on to help others who are headed down a dead end road. It's saving others from taking the loss, or from putting loss in others' lives. You never know what you have until it's gone due to mistakes. From someone to convert their mind from the negative and turn it positive is a blessing and without a second chance there would never be the opportunity to shine! Nor would there be the opportunity to better oneself, to change, to help others, or to become known and viewed as a leader for good causes.
As for second chances being a curse...well, this is primarily due to the person who is given a second chance, the reason being that a lot of people have a very corrupted way of thinking due to the way life goes on around them. Most of these people would use the opportunity of a second chance to try to get away or out of a predicament they're in. These people are liberated only to plot and plan ways to get away with future wrongdoing. A lot of this frame of thinking comes from a polluted mind, one that has been overcome by the poisons and stresses in life such as poverty, young parenthood, addiction, and acceptance. These people speak of having no clue of the real meaning of life, which can be a curse! Some individuals are not capable of taking the steps to change because it seems like a challenge too big to achieve. This is caused by a lack of self worth. Others given a second chance will make it worthless by taking from others' lives and causing pain. If most people would learn from their first mistake, then there would be fewer wrongs done than could be given by a second chance.

We want, sometimes even need, to move on from suffering. Suffering is what motivates us to reach for the best. Many wildly successful people have overcome things like mental illnesses and trauma. For example, J.K. Rowling battled clinical depression while writing the first book of the Harry Potter series, in fact, the dementors in the series were written as a representation of her depression. Bethany Hamilton won the Explorer’s Women’s Division of the NSSA National Championships, even after losing an arm in a shark attack. Oprah Winfrey was molested repeatedly as a child, and gave birth at 14, only to lose the child shortly after. Alexis Carrel, surgeon and author of Man, The Unknown, once said, “Man cannot remake himself without suffering, for he is both the marble and the sculptor.” I take this to mean that by remaking yourself, you become a better version of yourself, and if you want to be a better you badly enough, you can move past the suffering involved in…

However, the judgment of regret is a person’s way of reflecting one’s actions and regret is the first step in the conditions that determine his future conduct. It is commendable and justified and this “judgment of regret” paves the way for a moral direction of action for the future, not because one realizes that the past could have happened in a different way. The recognition of a wrongdoing is an innate response to what we have done. It is not a form of punishment we inflict upon ourselves. It is only through regret or remorse that we learn to make amends.…

Whether something turns out good or not embracing all of ones experiences teaches about life, they make your life complete. Of course, one should learn from their mistakes and grow from them, on the other hand not all of ones experiences are bad or mistakes and they help you grow as a person. Blunt states in his song "I 've heard what they say, but I 'm not here for trouble. Far, far away; find comfort in pain. All pleasure 's the same: it just keeps me from trouble. It 's more than just words: it 's just tears and rain." (lines 21-24). Emerson agrees with this by saying "that he must take himself for better for worse as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good…" (page 364).…

Part of being a human being is learning from our mistakes. It is a natural process that we all experience at various periods of our lives. For instance, throughout the process of learning how to solve mathematics problems, the only method is to practice solving the problems. During this process of solving the problems, it is only natural to make mistakes. By comparison, in life in general, the only way to learn to become a better person is by correcting the mistakes that were previously experienced. During the past sixteen years of my life, I have learned many lessons as a result of primarily making mistakes. My mother always told me to obey the speed limit because one day I will unexpectedly have to pay the price. Not only could I kill myself by speeding, I could kill other innocent people that could have been involved.…

If we confront something difficult in life, an obstacle or hardship of some sort, and we live through it, then you will be stronger and wiser from that experience. We will learn from our mistakes and be able to better cope with that situation should it ever occur again. Initially, whenever we emerge from a trauma, we have learned something, and knowledge is power. If what we have just been through doesn't kill us, it has made us more experienced. If you go through a life changing experience, the things you learn from that experience will help you become a better and stronger person i.e. learning from your mistakes and not repeating them. A second chance, in my opinion, is one of the best things that can be given. When given a second chance, you learn how to improve your life. After all, we can learn from our mistakes. In the media we hear of many people being given another chance, children being reunited with parents and people narrowly escaping death and becoming better people. In the novel Playing for Pizza, the author, John Grisham illustrates the idea that being given a second chance teaches you valuable life lessons. Rick Dockery, the protagonist, learns much about life lessons and their effect after having been given a second chance. Life lessons are important. In this novel the author teaches the reader that you must cherish the happy moments, focus on happiness not monetary gain, and find security in a home that you can call your own.…

A criminal can commit one or more of a variety of crimes, depending on the severity of the crime. The first opportunity for a second chance is given here. The degree of punishment emitted to the convict is a measure of the law’s discernment on the eligibility of a criminal with regards to getting a second chance. Most punishments are either settled on monetary terms, like fines, or through jail terms. However, some cases of crime are such that a criminal is not given a second chance. These, like murder, warrant the sentence of lifetime imprisonment or even the death penalty. The effects of these two punishments are permanent and the convict is in no way given a second chance, unless the sentences are withdrawn.…
