The song “Mad World”, by Gary Jules has the same theme as the book “Divergent”. They both have the theme “Search for Identity”. In the song, Gary Jules sings, “Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow, No tomorrow”. Tris constantly wants to cry and leave, but she knows that she will become factionless if she does. Crying shows weakness and the other initiates will pick on her and try to make her leave if she shows weakness, and there would be no tomorrow. The song “Mad World” tells the story of people doing what they are told and trying to find out what their purpose in life/their duties are. In the book “Divergent”, Tris is also trying to find out what her purpose is and if she chose the correct faction.

It was awarded as the 2011 Goodreads Reader’s Choice Award. Veronica Roth is a very courageous girl that at her young age, she was able to make a wonderful novel that can be related to people who experience problems and challenges in life and nearly giving up.
