Sean Covey's 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
The quote, " All change begins with you.", in Sean Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens", is the perfect quote to describe such a exciting, amazing, and compelling, book. In this part of the book, Sean explains how you must win the war within yourself, before you wage wars against other people, and to be honest, he couldn't have found a better quote to describe this. He said what most use 100's of words to describe, in only five. That right there alone shows you how talented Sean Covey is. All in all, I give this quote five out of five stars, not because of the person who wrote it, but because it is the most succinct thing that I have ever heard in my entire

“Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable William Pollard.” The quote by William Pollard was a quote that held truth to me about not making changes to better ourselves and if we continue on this path of non-improvement then we will find ourselves left out of many different opportunities. I found this quote in the beginning of the 2013 spring semester, because of this quote I was able to stay dedicated to improve in what I lacked. In my communication 110 class I was able to improve on qualities of myself that I didn’t think I could really improve on. I was able to greatly improve…

The day of the eighth grade promotion was filled with mixed emotions. I was very nervous but also excited to be leaving middle school. I was mostly nervous because I would have to walk up onto the stage in front of over a hundred people. I didn’t want to go because of how nervous I was. The school day was uneventful. We went over what we were supposed to do in the gym multiple times. Even though the day was boring and uneventful, I was nervous the entire school day. In The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey states, “Putting first things first also deals with learning to overcome your fears and being strong during hard moments” (Covey 106). In order to overcome my fear and stay strong I had to put first things first. I was worrying…

“Self-Reliance” by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Ralph Waldo Emerson was a poet and philosopher from Boston Massachusetts, who always brought forth new ideas and refining and redefining his view of the world. “Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members.” Emerson claims that society doesn’t always agree with your beliefs, but in order to be a man, you must think for yourself and not fall into the peer pressure of your surroundings.” This work impacted future writers by the expansion of new topics and opportunities to use in their writings. His philosophies encouraged writers to write about whatever they wanted.…

In his book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey informs his readers of seven habits that will help them change into better people, and be more success full in life. Covey starts by explaining the difference between the habits and mindsets of highly effective and highly defective teenagers. The habits of an effective teenager include: being proactive, beginning with end in mind, putting first things first, thinking win-win, seeking first to understand, then to be understood, sharpening the saw, and synergize. However, the habits of a defective teenager include: reacting, beginning with no end in mind, putting first things last, thinking win-lose, seeking first to talk, then pretend to listen, don-t cooperate, and wearing yourself out. These two types of teenagers think completely opposite. An effective teen takes responsibility for his or her life, always has a positive attitude, and listens to people sincerely. This teen appreciates who he or she is, and defines a mission with goals in life. However, a defective teen has a different mentality. This teen blames all of his or her problems on others, doesn’t have a plan in life, and sees life as a vicious competition. Defective teens unlike effective teens tend to not get along with others, and are terrible at prioritizing.…

Ralph Waldo Emerson once stated, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” This quote means that society is going to try and change you, but sometimes change isn't always a horrible thing. You should always try and be yourself, but it's easier to fit in. Emerson's statement is false because of teamwork, acceptance, and survival.…

"A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, and it sparks extraordinary results." Wade Boggs. The most significant challenge I have faced in my high school career was the absence of a role model. Growing up, I only had my mom to depend on. My mom being a single parent often struggled to provide for me. Often times we couldn't afford to pay most bills and buy food, which led us to move into my grandfather's house. As I entered high school, I was lost and found myself unaware of how to prepare myself academically; education didn’t become my top priority. In life, sometimes you meet people who could change your life around. It could be your family, teachers, or your friends. Life is…

I chose this quotation because I felt that it is fitting for anything in life. In life you will always come across a new situation because life is always about change. When attempting to advance, I feel that is when the majority of change comes. You are always going to come across a personality, a strategy, or method that you are not going to like and will take you out of your comfort zone. What is important is that you realize that everything is temporary and too shall pass. Once you’ve figured out that there is no such thing as a “problem,” rather than it is a “change” you can deal accordingly because change is…

In order to make better transformations in life, I believe that change should start from within.
