Many would say that our current school system is flawed in many ways, one of which is the manner in which they get funding and quality of the information they are implanting into our children’s minds. There however is a way we can fix this, that is if we take on a movement of Interdependence, this means everyone has a sense of citizenship in their community and the world for that matter, do you agree with this? If you do than you would be able to relate to Benjamin Barber and the writing in his article, The Educated Student: Global Citizen or Global Conumer?, because he brings attention to these topics. At the beginning of his article Barber discusses how our founding fathers intended for all of our citizens to be well educated, “John Adams argued hard for schools for every young man…Thomas Jefferson made the same argument for public schooling for every potential citizen in America…” (Barber 416.3.2-3). He then proceeds to discuss how in present time there public school systems are being forced to run advertisements of companies in exchange for funding, because they are not funded enough without it; “We have watched this commercialization and privatization, a distortion of the education mission and its content, going to the heart of our schools themselves.” (Barber 417.11.1). Benjamin Barber puts great emphasis on the fact that we as a nation need to better understand citizenship and what it means to be a citizen, and on top of that be more aware of the other nations of this world and our relationship to them. We are a very multicultural nation, but he expresses how little we care about that and how we don’t understand that it gives us an advantage that we need to capitalize on. (421.28-29). Benjamin Barber has written many other articles and is still pushing the movement for Interdependence.…

Hester Prynne, from The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, was alienated from her society for committing adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale. The bible says the man who commits adultery will suffer, and he will be in despair. Job 15:20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 says “All his days the wicked man suffers torment, ... Terrifying sounds fill his ear; ...He despairs of escaping the darkness;...Distress and anguish fill him with terror; they overwhelm him, ...because he shakes his fist at God...” Reverend Dimmesdale struggled with God throughout the whole novel, and God causes him suffering and pain.…

According to the essay Herodotus: Xerxes Invades Greece, from The Histories, Herodotus was a very famous historian, who gave his account of the battle of Thermopylae. It is significant though to recognize that Herodotus was Greek and giving an account of what happened when the Persians defeated them. In the text Xerxes has many incidents that portray him as superstitious and tyrannical. Some examples of Xerxes’ tyranny is his plans to “march an army through Europe against Greece,” his want to not rest until he has taken and burnt Athens, wants to extend the Persian territory throughout all of Europe, his beheading of his master- builders, and his lack of mercy towards his slave and his five sons. Xerxes shows his superstitions when he sends for the Magians to tell him why the sun has disappeared, and the day has so quickly tuned to night. Turning to the actions in battle, those of the Spartans tell me that they are a strong willed people who do not give up easily, if at all, even when faced with a great challenge and are outnumbered. Besides this essay showing the Greeks strong will, this essay seems to promote their use of wit and skill in tricking the Persians into thinking there were less of them than there actually was. The account was written by a Greek, so the information in the story would cast them in a more positive light. Lastly, in our text, Western Civilization, there is a thurough evaluation of the significance of the Persian invasions on the Greek political and intellectual…

I do agree with what Ashton Kutcher and Christine Rosen are saying. Our technology is starting to pull us too close together. Today’s Facebook members are off the charts especially with younger people. Romance has changed from back in the day and has become a new completely different version. It is not all that bad if used the right way between people. Can we still live in a face to face world? Or will everything become digital?…

In this paper I will be reviewing both academic and journalistic articles on the hit series MTV’s The Real World. Both articles took different approaches when critically looking at the television show. The amount of evidence that was offered in the academic essay was significantly bigger than what was offered in the journalistic essay. The academic essay I looked at came directly from our textbook, it was “Constructions of Reality on MTV’s The Real World: An Analysis of the Restrictive Coding of Black Masculinity” by Mark P. Orbe. This article made claims such as “The Real World is not about characters following a pre-determined script, but rather the real life experiences of young people…that work to unmask and deconstruct racial and gender stereotypes”. The journalistic article I chose to review was found online on the RollingStone website, it was “The Real World' Keeps Turning: How MTV's Hit Survived to Season 29” by Andy Greene. In his review Greene mainly talked about how long the series has lasted rather than touching on what the text is about. On the other hand Orbe provides plenty of evidence on how this text shows “the ways in which this programming format contributes to the hegemonic power of racial images in reinforcing a general societal fear of Black men.”…

Team communication is important for teams, and communication is needed if the team wants to be successful. For effective dynamics, a team must communicate because this process is crucial for a healthy and effective team. There are several frustrations, misunderstandings, and questions that are addressed with the proper team communication. Team communication has been defined as the information shared in such a way that it shares more than team communication; it shares the significance of a healthy and thriving team (Papa, 2013). Overall, the significance, the function, the effects, and the considerations of team communication should be understood among the team to understand how effective communication operates, and this also helps the team have effective communication.…
