Scoliosis is a very common condition, affecting people of all ages. Goal of treatment for any type of scoliosis is to slow progression. Specifically in adolescents, it is critical to consider emotional factors related to embarrassment of bracing or surgery. Another significant part to remember is this condition is not a self-limiting, and it will not affect cognitive or learning abilities. Addressing patient and family concerns is priority in caring for these patients, as well as listening to what they have as far as expectations and treatment options.
