Science Olympiad Personal Statement

With a pair of binoculars, a magnifying glass, and a notepad, one of the most exhilarating parts of my childhood was rushing outside into my backyard and watching for hours on end spiders spinning delicate webs, birds feeding their young, the interactions within a decaying tree stump ecosystem, and countless of other animals going about their lives. I would often sit absolutely still, quietly sketching what I observed, and constantly wondering why things were the way they were and how. This curiosity and growing interest for how things in the world simply function and how I can use that knowledge to solve problems prevalent today to make a change eventually led to my passion for science, technology, and mathematics fields and partially my success …show more content…
The experiences I gained participating in several of my school’s academic teams such as Science Olympiad, and the VEX Robotics Team is one of the reasons why I feel so. While preparing for Science Olympiad competitions, putting great effort and hard work into learning the material for my events such as Anatomy and Physiology and Disease Detectives, an event where participants study epidemiology concepts, made me elated because I was learning about how the world functions while using math and science to find out how. I am aspiring to get a career in the medical or computer science field, both of which relates to the math, science, and technology field. More specifically, I am looking at being a physician or a software engineer, and MST will help me work towards that goal by providing challenging, rigorous high-level courses. The heavy work accumulated from these classes helps me be prepared for the workload to come in the future years in the process of becoming a physician or software engineer. Also, the strong academic program offered in MST will help me be prepared for postsecondary education by offering an array of Advanced Placement (AP) courses so I can earn college credit if done successfully, saving money and time in college
