Science and technology
Science and technology is a vital part of our society's world and how we function. Unless you happen to live out in the middle of the Sahara Desert and have sworn off all aspects of technology and science, then you are most likely exposed constantly to science in your daily life. While it is a big part of our world, there is a constant uneasy relationship between human beings and science. It is a common axiom that people don't trust what they don't understand. That is exactly what drives and causes this unsteady relationship people have with science. People never want to put full faith and confidence into the untouchable, comprehendible, or viewable. Trust is what really brings people to wonder about science and subconsciously fear it. Because we cannot reconcile some things science and technology give us, our immediate reaction is to set ourselves away or fear it. It is human nature to want to question and have some form of apprehension toward the thing we cannot fully reconcile. We see this is all forms of science and technology in our society. From the physical features of science such as technology and medicine to even scientific theories and cerebral and abstract parts of science, all forms in some way can make people uneasy. It makes you wonder however, why someone would fear something that is always attempting to be beneficial. Research and discoveries are usually made solely to help the individual and or society as a whole. So what are we as people so unnerved about? From even the most mundane actions and events in our lives to our moral beliefs and views, we see in every aspect of science the questioning and doubt by people.

I was unable to wear contacts due to some technical mumbo jumbo, so my parents decided to sign me up for Laser Eye Surgery. I had the procedure and can see quite

In Michael Specter “TED” talk “The Danger of Science Denial” I am not sure it is correct to say society has a problem with Science and progress. The problem is our society’s lack of trust in what is said by our government and news media? Or could it be our lack of trust in big money having ability to manipulate scientific findings for their financial benefit. With large amounts of news reports on social media, for example Facebook and twitter. Many of these news items appear so real. Who do you believe?…

I believe that scientific experiments themselves create a fear of the unknown and produce an uncanny feeling. It is unclear what the outcome will be, and results can only truly be guessed at. Therefore when something as serious as creating life is being dealt with, and only by a student of science, the outcome comes across more like a risk, bringing fear about the…

Science is often portrayed in the media world using a lack of common sense, misinformation, illusions, and it plays off the fears of an un-knowledgeable audience. The media tries to impose their ideas, beliefs, and knowledge of science to the public, but the media itself, does not know enough about science or how to comprehend the information they are fed. Doing this, will lead to the media not properly conveying science so that people will gain information, but in turn they lose the meaning and value of science in their everyday lives.…

Despite the fact that Science has helped us, the advances of technology has increased the destructive capacity of conflict by enabling many countries to create horrifying weapons of mass destruction that have raised numerous ethical questions. Also, it is a constant threat to humanity with the danger that never ceases to end as can be seen by the destruction of the First and Second World War with their unprecedented number of deaths. The atomic bomb, for example, with the destruction it has caused and affected the Japanese many years after and, it was created about 70 years ago. In the 21st century, we have weapons that can make the atomic bomb look like a firecracker. The development of these weapons of mass destruction has raised the threat of total global destruction. Science has produced the means of more suffering in an almost infinite way, which surely outweighs the benefits towards healing and helping the sick and needy. As much as I would like to disagree, as long as these weapons exist; Science will always be a threat to humanity.…

Since 1858 till 1948, India has been under the British rule, the period also known as ‘British Raj’. The scientific, technological and medical developments that took place remains to be a debate till today of whether India introduced its own developments or silently borrowed from the West. But a history of science in India must also be a history of India, not merely a history of the projection of western science onto India. Over this 200-year period, there were three main elements that broadly typified science, technology and medicine in India. They are:…
