Science and Technology
Some people believe that science and technology increase have positive effects in our life. In my view, it is difficult to say whether developments in science, technology and other areas of society in the last 100 years make it better to be alive now.

Nowadays we can get lots of benefits from science and technology, for example, medicine, transport and communications. If someone gets a disease, there is enough medical knowledge and good medicine to treat them or make them live longer. Secondly, modern transport is more and more convenient, fast and comfortable. In addition, information technology can help us contact other people everywhere and anytime, especially when you use the Internet. It also allows shopping and anything you want to do without having to step outside our home.

However, advances in science and technology also have negative effects. For instance, the cause of air pollution in the world is too much transport. And it also causes global warming and makes people unhealthy. If we always use the Internet or mobile phone to contact, we will not do exercise outside and get farther away from other people. On health care, drugs misuse can also influence people’s health.

To sum up, we have made great progress over the last hundred years but there still many important issues to deal with. This might be considered a better time to live than any previous age but it must be that people are healthier and happier than ever before. And hopefully the future will be better

Cell phones are no luxury anymore and there is hardly any person not having one. Another great invention is the Internet. Internet can literally do magic. Who could have known forty or so years ago that someday it would be possible to find any information you like by making several simple moves? First of all, technologies play a very important role in society because it makes life easier to live on and less time consuming. Technology has the ability to create shortcuts in working. People do not have to do all the hard labor anymore. For example, microwave ovens cook food easily without using any stoves and making a big mess. Some decade ago, there were no gas or electric stoves, people have to get firewoods and lighting them up for cooking. Technology makes things very easy to use comparing it in the old fashion way.…

I also find, especially in the Western world, that people are disconnected. Communication technology is supposed to connect people: it is beginning to connect people to machines, but not people to people. A young kid in U.S. knows how to deal with computer networks but does not know how to play with his next-door neighbour, so technology does bring in some level of problems. Some use technology, some abuse technology. The main idea behind technology has been to increase comforts, helps us in doing things outside of our body, but unfortunately for many developing countries technology is seen as something exotic fancy, foreign, alien and not necessarily problem solving. Technology is problem solving and there is technology in everything we do. Many of my friends in social science always criticize me saying” You are attacking” “Of course I am. That’s all I know”. “You look at things only form the view point of management and technology”. ”Well, that is the only pair of glasses I wear” But the same people use telephones computers, watch TV, and travel on aeroplanes without accepting the fact that they are indeed enjoying the fruits of technology in their day to day life.…

To begin with, there has been significant progresses in many sectors, such as health, engineering, education etc., with the advancing technology. Over and above, the fact that we can quickly reach any information we need in very short space of time has made our lives more practical and easier.
