Science Activity: Importance Of The National Science Center
If galleries are the only thing you knew a science centre had, then think again! National Science Centre is a hub of science activities and they are presented to you not just through galleries but with an assortment of events and outdoor activities as well.
Our calendar notifies us about important days every year like our birthdays, any memorable event, wedding dates and many more. But we also come across days which are dedicated to remembering a special cause like World Telecommunication Day, World Health Day, World Environment Day, World Ozone Day, World Population Day, National Science Day, National Technology Day, Engineers’ Day etc. These are celebrated by organizing ‘Commemorative Events’ like popular science lectures, exhibitions and

The ‘Creative Ability Camp’ illustrates and lets them study scientific concepts using low cost and waste materials. Children love to learn but the ways should be unique and here you will be amazed to see how kids diligently perform experiments stretching over long periods, to learn concepts using scientific methodology.
Environmental Awareness is must for every person and specially the children. With this in view, the Centre conducts ‘Environmental Awareness Programmes’ where children know their environment better through activities like poster making, open house quiz, essay writing, extempore speech, debates, popular lectures by experts, dramas, environment awareness marches in the city, pollution studies and fancy dress competitions.
The centre takes pride in their library which has more than 250 video cassettes and CDs on different scientific topics available for ‘Film shows’ for the student groups. Not just watching on screen, but the students get to know Nature closely as they go on a trip to a place with a distinct ecosystem accompanied by a team consisting of subject experts. Several such trips have been undertaken to Kullumanali, Dharamshala, Bhimtal and

If you want to spend your vacation time with your children a little creatively then you will be glad to participate in several ‘Hobby camps’ conducted by the Centre twice a year, once during summer and then again during winter. Some of the camps are held on mechanics, air and water (fluidics), electricity and magnetism, optics, Electrical appliance use and repair, electronics, computers, clay modeling, screen printing, magic etc.
Learning is fun and definitely not a tiresome thing. Let your child understand that as you take him or her along a ride of happy moments and enjoy yourselves at the National Science Centre in Delhi!

The California Science Center seems like a wonderful place, filled with exhibits that have many learning opportunities that make it seem like you are not learning, but having fun. I severely regret not going. The California Science Center is located south of downtown Los Angeles, in the historic Exposition Park, near USC (yeah!). Cost of admission is $10.00 (well that’s for parking, other than that, to get in is a donation), which is quite a paltry sum of money, seeing as you seem to get hours upon hours of fun. The days and hours of operation for the California Science Center are everyday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In order to become a California Science Center member, one must call (213) 744-7504 to purchase a Membership, or visit the Membership Information Desk at the Science Center. If you become a member, you become, as stated by the California Science Center website, “part of a dynamic, innovative community dedicated to our mission to stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in everyone by creating fun, memorable experiences.” If you do not want to pay to be part of a wonderful organization, you can volunteer by turning in an application either by e-mail, fax, or by sending a letter to the Department of Volunteer Resources. In order to volunteer, however, you must be at least 16 years of age. Looking at the application, I believe that all elements that you are to put down are viable, and I would not change a thing.…

Science plays an important part in the National Curriculum and providing pupils with valuable knowledge, understanding and the skills to investigate scientific theories in their continued education. Science is about following scientific methods in order to analyse and hypothesise on the findings. Devereux (2000, p5) states “Science essentially is about understanding. It involves reaching possible conclusions, exploring relationships and explanations between ideas and events.” I will be teaching a class of twenty six students, aged between five and six about life processes and living things. However I will be focusing on a particular group of six children who are within the Level 1 parameters (Appendix 1) and aiming towards achieving Attainment Target 1 by the end of the year. (Appendix 2)…

One way that teachers and schools can develop children’s enjoyment towards learning, is by introducing outdoor learning. Outdoor learning is a way to get children interactively involved in their learning. It also helps break up the repetitiveness of day to day classroom routines. There can be many benefits to outdoor learning, as stated by (Dillon J 2006) outdoor learning can include; knowledge and understanding; attitudes and feelings; values and beliefs; actions and behaviours; personal and social development. Also another benefit from outdoor learning experiences, is that it enables the children who struggle in class to excel to their full ability by performing hands on tasks. In addition, it allows all children to develop team work, leadership and social skills. Evidence for this can be taken from my personal off site experience to Orams Arbour. While being randomly paired and blindfolded we had to guess the tree that our partner had taken us too. This task helped me develop my social skills and gain confidence when meeting new people. In addition working as a team was the only way out task would work, so it encouraged my partner and I to place trust in each thus helping develop team work, leadership and social skills. These are all skills that can be taught and developed to children and will therefore have a positive impact on those who learn them. I also found that this activity enabled us to use senses such as touch. This would be an effective learning task for children who are kinaesthetic learners, who would perhaps normally struggle with…
