Schools Should Aloww Concealed Carry
Should concealed carry be allowed in schools

Schools should allow legally licensed concealed carry permit holders to continue carrying on and in schools. Concealed carry minimizes or eliminates school shootings, and it can decreases crime rates. People carry everywhere else so why not on campus? In the wake of the Newtown shooting and other mass shootings throughout the United States, many people feel opposed to guns, which is the entirely wrong reaction. Because if guns had been outlawed before the shootings the shooters still would have found a way of getting guns or potentially more destructive firearms. This would have ended in an average of a ten minute uninterrupted slaughter of people. “Due to the Gun Free School Zone Act an increase in school shootings has occurred, such as the Columbine High School massacre that occurred in Colorado in 1999, which acts as evidence that the law is ineffective.” Due to another school shooting, the 2007 Virginia Tech University massacre in which more than thirty people were killed, the group, “Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC) was formed. The group lobbies colleges to allow licensed individuals to bring concealed firearms onto campus grounds as a way to increase safety for all students.”
People seem to think that the relatively small number of justified shooting deaths each year somehow proves that concealed carry is ineffective. Like many opponents of concealed carry, they fail to realize that the key factor is not the number of bad guys killed but, rather, the number of good guys saved. According to a 1991 FBI study, less than one out of a thousand lawful defensive uses of a firearm results in the death of the attacker. By that estimate, firearms are used almost five times more frequently to save lives than to take lives in the U.S. (Find source)
So if teachers, staff members, and other legal concealed carry permit holders where permitted to carry in schools the result would have been an average of a

Opponents of concealed carry argue that increased gun ownership leads to more gun crime and unintended gun injuries. They contend that concealed handguns increase the chances of arguments becoming lethal, and that society would be safer with fewer guns on the street, not more. Dr. John Lott, published More Guns, Less Crime which concluded that the "shall-issue" laws linked with a reduction in violent crimes in 1988. Lott argued that if states that did not permit concealed handguns in 1992 had permitted them in 1977, 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults, and 12,000 robberies would have been prevented between 1977 and…

If people are granted a concealed weapons license, the crime rate will decrease. More than just murder would decrease. Concealed guns reduced murder, rapes, aggravated assaults, and robbery. One reason for this is because criminals would feel scared because they wouldn’t know who is carrying a concealed gun. The Second amendment also plays a part…

Lott concludes with “Right-to-carry laws reduced the frequency and the severity of mass public shooting; and to the extent to which mass shootings still occur, they took place in those areas in the state where permitted concealed handguns are not allowed,” (2), so carrying guns reduced the amount of attacks on people while in other places that do not allow guns are still being attacked. It is the necessity of allowing students to carry guns for their safety to reduce the risk of being…

Guns on a school campus is an issue with two clear sides, those who support allowing concealed weapons and those who rally for gun free zones. David Burnett supports the idea of allowing students to carry concealed weapons. Burnett’s central argument is that gun free zones leave students defenseless. Darby Dickerson disagrees, saying students do not understand the responsibilities of owning a weapon and should therefore, not be allowed to carry them on campus.…

Picture a class of twenty elementary students hidden under desks around the classroom, and the teacher is begging the children to stop sobbing. Down the hall the sound of gunshots ring out the sounds of people screaming and begging for help can be heard. The shooter is moving closer and closer to the area and all the innocent soon to be victims are defenseless. There is nothing in that classroom that is going to stop what is about to happen. Now imagine a teacher with a handgun that could at least scare off the shooter, or deter them from advancing into the room. Many people frown upon teachers being able to carry a handgun on school grounds, but if they only knew that the thing they frown upon could possibly be saving their kids life. It makes perfect sense that teachers should be able to carry a handgun if and only if they go through the proper training and tests.…

What message does it send if we suggest through armed school personnel that our minds are not enough? “Clearly our students and staffs need to study, work, and play in safe surroundings; chances of having any breach of security need to be diminished. However, classroom teachers are not called to perform such duties.”, Lloyd E. Sheaffer. The students need to know that they are safe and with guns on campus they fear they are not safe. Kids also have a conscious too they know when something's up they will not feel safe with their conscious telling them they have guns around them. Today's teachers build emotional connections with their pupils; they encourage feelings of trust and confidence. Guns and other excessive security measures do not make kids feel safer and they increase their perception that they are unsafe," she said. If they have to go through metal detectors or pass by an armed guard, they believe they are not in a safe…

When you think of Columbine High School and Sandy Hook Elementary School do you think of an average school or do you think of the tragic, mass murders that took place by gunmen? School shootings have started to increase more and more over the last decade, this also rising in colleges across the country. The question has been posed “Should students be allowed to carry a gun on campus?”. As the Constitution states in the Second Amendment, we as Americans, should have the God given right to have a gun to protect themselves from danger. Today’s society is willing to put people’s rights aside to make up for some people’s discomfort of having guns on campus. This is understandable as school shootings happen for people owning guns, but allowing students to carry a gun on campus also allows them to protect themselves and others in a crisis instead of having to wait for campus security or other law officers to show up. Being able to have a gun on campus could help save more lives than banning them. As some states are starting to pass the law allowing students to carry a gun as long as it’s concealed, it is starting many controversies as to whether it is what is best for our states. With many questions coming up with this debate, passing the law would allow students to use their right, protect themselves and others in dangerous situations, and even possibly decrease the opportunities for…

After various shootings in schools and colleges, gun control laws have been a debate all over the country and all over the news. However, many state legislatures have already decided to obligate colleges and universities to allow “concealed carry”. While on one side laws are being passed to keep guns away from the public, on the other side, guns are being permitted in college campuses. Allowing people to carry guns in college campuses is not the way to keep students, faculty, and staff safe, because the students will have to face additional risks, a healthy learning environment is at stake, and citizens allowed a conceal carry permit aren’t always righteous.…
