2nd Quarter Research/Persuasive Essay report

Your second quarter project is to choose a topic to write a persuasive essay. It’s important to write persuasive essays because in high school and college, you will be required to write on different topics to show professors your ability to persuade their thinking or opinion on a particular subject. These align with the new NC Common Core requirements below:

1. Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

a. Introduce claim(s), acknowledge alternate or opposing claims, and organize the reasons and evidence logically.

b. Support claim(s) with logical reasoning and relevant evidence, using accurate, credible sources and demonstrating an understanding of the topic or text.

c. Use words, phrases, and clauses to create cohesion and clarify the relationships among claim(s), reasons, and evidence.

d. Establish and maintain a formal style.

e. Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the argument presented.

You will choose from the list below what topic to write on. Each topic will have specific websites that will help you in your argument. These websites have been checked and they all do work. If you have any problems accessing these sites, please let Ms. Burton know. Also, if you come across any REPUTABLE websites, please let Ms. Burton FIRST before you can use them. I will have to give you approval of the use of the website before you can use it in your paper. I want to make sure that it is okay to use and that it comes from a reliable source (i.e. it’s not a blog or from ehow, Wikipedia, etc.)

You may choose from the list below:
1. Should cell phones be banned in schools? You will try to persuade people if schools should or shouldn’t allow cell phones.
