Unit TDA 2.2
Task 1
Currently there are several different agencies that are involved with safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.
Police
The police work very closely with Children’s social care to protect all children from any harm. All police forces in the United Kingdom have a special team to deal with abuse called Child Abuse Investigation Unit.
The police have to asses whether a crime has been committed and if so proceed with an Investigation. Gather all evidence that will help towards the investigation, from social care and any agencies that will be involved.
Take immediate action to produce a safe environment towards the child in question, being removal of child or perpetrator{s}.
Attend any court hearing that may take place and submit any evidence found to the court.
Health professionals
Health professionals such as Health Visitors, General Practioners {GP’s} and Doctors in emergency departments are able to examine those children that that have injuries that are thought to be non-accidental. If the injuries are thought to be non-accidental then these health professionals are to contact children’s social care and/or police as a duty to protect the child.
Health professionals are to carry out medical examination or observe the child that is thought to be at risk of abuse or has suffered abuse.
Will be required to contribute to social care reports.
To give evidence in the court if an offence has been committed towards the child.
Education Professionals
Teachers in nursery’s, schools and colleges will work with those other organisations to safeguard all children and young people.
They may produce the evidence of emotional behaviour in a case and will protect the victims from there abuser if need be contacting police if conditions are seen to be broken.
NSPCC
NSPCC are charitable organisations that have the power, along with police and children’s social care, to take action if a child may be at risk of abuse.
