Scene Analysis
The scene that I choose is from the movie Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2. This is the scene when Mc Gonagall is trying to protect Hogwarts from the invading Lord Voldermort. Thjere is a lot of intensity and build up hype in the scene that I considered it as one of the best scene in the Harry Potter Franchise.
On the first shots Mcgonagall is walking through the corridors. A master shots which is a long shot of all the character is taken which gave the impression of a hectic situation where everybody seems to be in a hurry. As Mcgonagall is walking to pass the camera, the camera movement from still turns into a tracking shots. Because of that from what before seems to be a long shot turns into a medium shot that give more emotion and details as both of the character is having a conversation. As they reach outside as the character stops walking, the tracking shot stops and transfers into a dolly out even when though the characters are still having a conversation, the reason of this choice is because it turns out the conversation of the two is not very important and relevant to the scene following to the Hitchcock rule. Next there is a slight dolly in after the conversation with the students end. Now Mcgonagal talks to the other teacher. This conversation is far more important because it talks about the main issues of the scene, which is Voldermort attack.
The second shot is rather unique because it takes from the back of the characters. The shot comes from above then take a dolly in while going down (crane shot). The meaning of the shots is it shows that the characters wants to protect something, because of that it portraits the back of the character as a symbol of protection. The high angle represents that they are weak, just as the conversation the know that they can only stall, but soon the lowering camera angle makes them looks rather strong represents the strong will.
The third shot is the continuation of shot 1 dolly in, from a long shot in shot 1 it turns into a medium long shot. The fourth shot like shot 3 is the continuation of shot 2 dolly in that is taken from the back. The difference between this shot and shot 2 is while shot 2 tries to implies the characters wants to protect something, shot 4 is done because the characters is going to turns its back, but this really makes strong connection between shots because of the dolly in continuation.
Fifth shot is a rather fast dolly in to inside the school from a low angle perspective. The usage of the low angle because this shot purpose is to introduce a character that is mighty/strong which is the school stone guardian. Even though this is a low angle shot, the eye level between McGonagall and the stone guardian is still in the same level, which make the shot very succesfull as that make a connection of them looking face to face. Sixth shot was like a reverse dolly in from the stone guardian perspective to McGonagall which enhance the viewers view that both of them are in the same corridor looking through each other.
Seventh shot is a tracking shot of the stone guardian jumping from upstairs. Again a low angle shot to give a strong impression of the guardians.

This cuts to a dark medium-wide shot of what appears like a silhouette of the character. With a pan, it remains dark until a desk light is turned on, revealing a crowded and seemingly disorganized office space. Another cut reveals a medium-close shot of the main character with overhead lighting that is supposed to be coming solely from the desk lamp. This relatively stationary shot, only panning when the characters moves, focuses on the distraught character trying to comfort and make sense of the proceeding events to the clip. This relatively dialogue free shot reveals not much to the audience; only that this character would like to record observations. This shot is very crowded with visuals which also add to the confusing theme being portrayed. One final cut to a close up shot with similar lighting finally gives the audience insight into the mind of the character as they begin noting their observations. This shot is clear from distractions and gives the audience some relief and closure that has been build up with the proceeding cuts. Altogether there are 5 different shots being presented, all of which have very distinct length and composure that proceed to confusion and closure to the audience, as well as a smooth development…

We see Tommy Devito repeatedly beating Billy Bates with a pistol from a low angle shot after Billy insulted Tommy by telling him “To go home and get your F***en shine box” in reference to Tommy’s old job cleaning shoes in “The Suite” a restaurant opened by Henry Hill. The low angle shot is used to make Tommy appear bigger, stronger and thus more menacing. The use of a red single source of light creates an effect where Tommy is covered in darkness along with red light; representing his violent nature. At the same time, we hear the song "Atlantis" by Donovan, which is reminiscent of the hippy culture which was at a high during the 60’s when the scene occurred. The message of the song talks about peace, love and creating a utopia where everyone…

Having already established itself as a very popular series in the action and adventure genre, the Transformers movies have been both praised and criticized. But when a movie is about transforming alien robots fighting to the death, many can’t resist watching it. To say the least, the transformers movies have revolutionized the use of CGI graphics in a way no other movie has. Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) is a “soft” reboot of the series and a sequel to Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011). The film was a huge success, earning more than $1 billion at the global box office. That number indicates that the film had a very large audience, including both kids and adults alike, and that the movie was adroitly advertised, especially in other countries. Two of the movie posters used in the advertising campaign caught my eye because of their similarities and how they presented the movie. The two posters deliver the audience two different key messages about the movie, giving insight on the character relationships, and most of all, the plot.…

All living creatures must face the battle between life and death. In Virginia Woolf’s “The Death of the Moth” a moth is shown to be injured and laying in a window pane staring upon death. Like the moth, humans face the struggle of living life and facing death. The fact that death is inevitable, allows humans to shape their lives in a way that makes them content. Woolf effectively uses the dying moth to represent the pathetic nature of life and the acceptance of death.…

The clip starts off with a medium close-up of Jack, screaming. This close-up can show how frustrated he is at this point, which makes the women stop throwing fruits at him. It shows next both of the women, in individuals close ups. They were close-ups to them as it is the expression in their face that is important rather than them together. Making it individual shot shows different expression which gave a sense of continuity of the situation. The first one gives a motion of stopping while the second one give this expression of shock, which builds up to the next shot. The next one is a long shot of Jack. It shows the awkward situation he now is. The shot was purposely made so that he is in profile, making it possible to see all the fruits stuck. It is then emphasised by a medium close-up of jack, turning his head to the camera as if he tell the camera how ridiculous this is. the fact all those shot were showed in a five-second range give an idea of how the time…

The one scene I chose starts out with a medium shot duration of 7 seconds, where the main character Evan is speaking to a prison inmate. The scene then utilizes a reverse shot of the inmate replying to Evan’s conversation for 4 seconds. The two characters continue to converse for 9 seconds longer with alternating reverse shots of each character speaking to each other for 3 seconds at a time. This conversation consists of Evan explaining to his cell mate that he can show him that Jesus Christ speaks to him in his thoughts. After conversing the next shot takes us into the eyes of what Evan sees when he is reading his journal for a length 5 seconds. The ensuing shot is a close up shot duration of 3 seconds of Evan’s stunned face, followed by another point of view shot from Evan’s perspective looking at his cell mate. This takes us to a flashback of Evan’s elementary school days where he is in class and asked to create a drawing of what he desires to be when he grows up.…

Camera angles and shot sizes are used in films to reveal characters emotions and reactions when put in certain situations. This paragraph will look at the chosen scene and discuss the different camera angles and shot sizes used and how they affect the audience. In Act 5, scene 3 Luhrmann's version the shot sizes and camera angles include an extreme close up on Romeo's eyes as he enters the tomb of the Capulet's. This shot size is used to display the sadness in Romeo's eyes as this is the first time he is seeing his beloved Juliet dead. A subjective angle is then used to show the audience what Romeo is seeing as he enters the tomb. Romeo then makes his way to Juliet and Luhrmann uses a medium close up of Romeo; this allows the audience to witness Romeo’s emotions as he closes in on Juliet. A high angle is then used to show how Juliet is powerless to all that is occurring. As Romeo holds her hand an extreme close up is used, this shows that Juliet is starting to awaken as her hand moves. This shot size creates a great deal of anxiety for the audience, because they know what is going…

"The technique of advertising is to correlate feelings, moods or attributes to tangible objets, linking possible unattainable things with those that are attainable, and thus reassuring us that the former are within reach". (Williamson 1978:31). Hence the advertisement not only sells the reader the product, but also a future image of ourselves as more desirable, happier etc…. Through the process of being advertised a product becomes a representation of everything the reader desires to become. "What the advertisement clearly does is thus to signify, to represent to us, the object of desire" (Williamson 1978:60). It could thus be argued that the most important concept in advertising is the notion of ‘me’. In order to be successful advertisements need to portray an image of ‘me’ and tell us how to make it even more appealing, attractive, sexy etc. In this way the product is given personality; communicating not only information but also image. Due to the fact that it is through the use of the products advertised that the model signified in the advertisement appears as he/she does, it is the implication, or connotation, of the advertisement that the audience can become as attractive and appealing as the model by using the same products.…

One photograph depicts a group of rural men. All of them are looking at the camera and some of them are seated and others stood on or near a huge tree’s trunk. Few of them hold on their hands work equipment such as axs which help them to cut down and dismember tree’s trunk. Thus, this single picture illustrate theme of work shown by piece of wood around and work equipments. Another element that emerges from this picture is the exploitation of wood as a daily activity. In addition to logging, the photo illustrate the old Northwest society and the beauty of its nature. Although the photo seems to emphasize the exploitation of wood as a natural resource and wealth, it also shows us trees cutted, dirtiness, and men with axes on hand that characterize the work of people who live in a forest area.…
