Scary Story

One day, I was going to the gym with my friend and we were riding bicycles. Three blocks away from the gym, there were 4 big African American guys were standing and they were looking at us. We were just slowly riding our bicycle on the side walk and then those 4 guys came up to us and blocked our way. There were no people on the street except us. I knew why they stopped us, because my friend and I had an expensive headphones on our neck and they were looking at our headphones. One of the guy said “Why did you take my brother's headphones?” then I said “ I don't know what you are talking about and I don't even know your brother, these are our headphones.” then he was quite for a second and his other friend pulled out his knife and said “ Look! If you don't give us your headphones now otherwise it's going to be bad for you”. After he showed his knife our heart started beating fast. We were so freaked out, I almost wet myself when I saw the knife. My friend looked at me and I looked at him. We knew what to do, we slowly got off our bicycles and we slowly put the bicycles down. We took our headphones off from our neck and we looked back and started running. We left our bicycles, because our headphones costs a lot more than those bicycles, so we thought that leaving the bicycles were good idea. Unfortunately, those guys caught us and when they were trying to get our headphones from our hands, something happened, that I never forget, from nowhere undercover police officers showed up in seconds. Big white van stopped next to me and more cops jumped off from the van. They arrested those guys. It was like the movies, I still can't forget that. Cops told us that, they have been watching those guys, because they did some crimes in the past. We thanked NYPD for saving our lives. If, they weren't there, I don't know what would have happened to us. After that, me and my friend went to the court

The purpose of this story is to let everyone know about the stereotypes and opinions made about black men. I had no idea that people really were so scared by black people at night so often. I can understand being scared if you’re walking alone at night. I even get scared when I’m walking alone at night, but I don’t discriminate on who I’m scared of. If I see a White, Hispanic, Japanese, or Chinese creep man I’m going to be just as scared of them as if I saw a black creepy man. Creepiness is truly universal.…

Adetiba and Almendrala’s article details the traumatic side effects to viewing videos of police brutality, focusing specifically on its impact on Black people. While discussing the side effects, which are similar to that of post-traumatic stress disorder, the authors explicate the reasons as to why the Black community is particularly vulnerable to these symptoms. Citing a psychologist, the authors explain that since the majority of these videos feature Black victims, Black viewers see themselves as the victims, resulting in feelings of anxiety and danger. Although this article presents the downside to these videos, the authors offer an opposing viewpoint, explaining the political benefits to the videos of police brutality. The author notes…

Police brutality is a misbehavior that has been surfacing in the news for a few years. Many individuals are quite recently beginning to understand that these treacheries against the African American group truly happen, while others are mindful of this life harming circumstance. Besides, this shameful act towards African Americans primarily targets the young African American guys. A few insights demonstrate that since many African American men don't have any fathers around to manage their lives in the correct heading, they consequently grow up to be hooligans, criminals, or hoodlums. However, the false accusations are just examples of African Americans being racially profiled. In addition, if you were sufficiently lucky…

Based on Brent staples talk, the black lives matter movement is justified. It is justified because black male and female lives are very unfair, there are many differences created between people based on their color of skin. In Brent’s essay he states, “After dark on the warrenlike streets where i live, i often see women who fear the worst for me.” The quote from Brent’s essay is an example is an example of a black male doing nothing wrong, doing the same the same thing as everyone else in the town, he’s just walking around minding his own business and he is getting judged for it. In Ted talk is is stated that the saying “Black lives matter” isn’t saying black lives are the only…

I was a young, black girl name Sylvia i was raised in Harlem. Everything was fine growing up in Harlem, but something was wrong with everyone else; but Sugar and I were the “ only ones just right”. Suddenly a lady moved on our block with nappy hair and proper speech and no makeup, I would laugh at , her but then again, I would laugh at, everyone especially the junk man who went to his business like her was some big time president. I would think i knew everything and had all the answers and no one could teach me anything that I didn’t know. I hated her though; Miss Moore, she was the only woman in the neighborhood that had only a “ Miss” and a “Moore” but no first name. She has cept for feets, which were fish white and spooky. This paper was written to take a look at both sides of the stop and frisk program. By examining both sides I hope to show the effectiveness of the program, but not to leave out the possible negative effects also. There is no doubt that this program has gain a lot of negative attention, the main controversial issue at hand is that the people feel that it gives the cops to much authority to stop anyone they can. This program is to believe that it is a way to make cities more safe, but the ones’ that are mostly stopped are African-American and Latino young men and they feel that the program is a way for the cops to use it for racial profiling. Not only is it used for profiling, but these people believe…

I was maybe twelve when my parents had a talk with me about my safety. She talked about what I would do as a black girl, when a cop pulls up. Daddy was mad because he did not think I needed the talk, but Mommy knew I needed it. That night I would have never known that I would need to know that information. I went to a party, it was kinda fun, mostly was about drugs and alcohol. Khalil heard there was a fight so he came and got me. We drove for a little so that he could take me home. Shortly I saw these bright, red and blue flashing lights behind us. I could see the amount of anger mixed with stress in Khalil's face. Khalil pulls the car over and the cop pulls over too. I asked Khalil to make sure he had nothing on him and seconds later a white…

“GET THE FUCK ON THE GROUND NOW!” As soon as we turned we saw two African-American teenagers several years younger than us, with silver and black guns pointed directly at our heads. I would’ve never thought in a million years I would be a victim of aggravated robbery (becomes aggravated when a weapon is involved). I livedin my neighborhood for almost twelve years and never once felt afraid to walk alone at night. That night, I was walking home from my grandmothers with a friend; it was only a fifteen minute walk. The street we were walking down was a well lit, rural street, with cars driving through regularly. This area was one of the few places I would’ve thought of being victimized. As we lay on the ground, we were searched for valuables. As I was lying in the middle of the street, one of the guys explained to me, “IF YOU EVEN MOVE YOUR HEAD AN INCH, I’LL BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT!” After the mugger’s comment I felt him place the cold, hard gun to my head. It was the scariest moment in my life; my whole body was trembling with fear. Once the second gunman cleared my friend’s pockets, the two took off running. The moment they left they fired off several shots. We remained on the ground for five, long minutes. Afterwards we got up, sprinted the remaining distance to my house, and then called the police. I’ve never considered being robbed by an African-American because I don’t associate crime with a color, but after being robbed at gun-point it makes it extremely difficult not to. But instead of blaming an entire race, I sat aside my differences. This is not the case for others. Author Barry Glassner writes, “when it comes to race, the more obvious the pattern the more obscure it seems,” (Glassner 114). When we first hear about crimes that are committed, we automatically assume that the assailant is guilty. Yet often in time it’s not the case.…

Blacks are strongly affected by police brutality and biased judgments. Recent months have made police brutality hard to ignore and pose an unexpected challenge to the government, thanks to the black community that isn’t willing to put up with the corruption in the Police Departments. A black movement for the social problem has erupted since the shooting of Michael Brown on August 9, 2014,” That incident sparked a national movement to protest police treatment of African Americans and turned 18-year-old Michael Brown into a putative symbol of racial inequality in America”…

You haven’t done anything and were simply just walking on the street, you think back to things you’ve done and nothing would result in the police questioning you. As thoughts go through your mind you stumble upon the fact that your skin colour may be the issue. So you begin to believe that you have just been racially profiled by the police, knowing…

We were about one third of the way through the year. Tuesday morning I was headed to school, once the school came in sight I could hear people yelling and chanting. There was a huge crowd gathered at the front door of the school. I asked around to see what was going on; one man told me nine Negroes were trying to join the school. I didn’t see a problem with that. At the main entrance I saw the governor telling the crowd which seemed to be the entire city that he would not let the Negroes enter the school. He had the National Guard there to stop them if they…

Practice was over after dark and I and my brothers were on our way home, when out of nowhere we heard “there they go lets getem, lets string them up” we started running for our lives. We felt that if we made to the military base we would be safe, but the eleven or so white assailants had other ideas. They cut off our exit to freedom. The next move was to find somewhere safe other than the base. I had a friend at school named Jessie and I knew where he live so we ran there. His mother opened the door to see three little black boys standing scared out of their minds. She asked what was wrong and I told her they were chasing us. She came out on the porch with her shotgun full rock salt and cleared the corner. Jessie’s mom then took us to the entry point of base. We thanked her and went home. After that night it was really hard to be outside after dark with worrying about be chased or being hung.…
