The Awesome Assignment That Proved to be Cancerous
Due to the Unfathomable Amount of Confusion and Dumb Questions
Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn? A time I experienced failure was during a family trip to Conchas Lake, and I attempted to knee board. I had just watched my brother do it effortlessly after two attempts and now I wanted to try. I got into the water and the boat began pulling me. I dragged myself onto the board but could not manage to place my knees in the allotted slots and was flung into the water. I wasn’t too upset, as hardly anybody gets it on their first try. I tried again and was flung into the water a second time. I mentally brushed myself off and got ready to attempt it again. I tried four more times, each time getting flung into the water, when finally it was time to go back and I had to get out of the water. I got onto the boat and before I knew it, was crying. Why could Patrick get it and I could not? When I think back to times I experienced failure to recount on this essay, they all have a common theme. Each time, I was upset because Patrick could do it and I could not. Patrick water-skied, and I could not. Patrick kayaked, and I could not. Patrick caught a fish, and I could not. It upset me greatly that I could not do any of the things that my brother could not, and not until recently did I finally learn that he and I are two different people. He may excel in physical activities, but I excel in creative and academic activities, and that is okay. Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again? A time I recall challenging a belief was last year, in my Study Skills class with Mr. Waterbury. I had not been standing for the Pledge of Allegiance for perhaps a month before, when one day, Mr. Waterbury asks me why I was

Failure is the state of not meeting an objective, and is normal for people to face throughout there life. I can speak on experience an event that had happened this past summer. After finals when my school had sent out final report cards, it was sad to see that my final average in my US History course did not meet the requirements to continue to the next grade. From there I had two options: to go to summer school and pass so that I may continue school at the academy or transfer schools and repeat my junior year of high school. With these two options I decided that it would be best to go to summer school and put all I had into the class so that I may pass. Sadly this failure had affected my life more than expected. I could no longer take part…

For some people it takes forever to figure out that failure is not always a bad thing, while at the time it may seem like the end of the world. “We are all potentially capable of any human act.” (Roth 39). Even the most successful of people have failed at something at least once in their lives. Maybe consider though, that failure was what brought them back up to the best, hardest working person that they could be and it did not take long for them to retrieve what they had lost and made it ten times better!…

Throughout my life I have always been committed and passionate in what I do. My faith fell first on this list. From a very young age I knew the importance and growth that came from knowing God and being an active member of a church family. The growth I experienced in church manifested and trickled out into my everyday life including academics. Central Advent Christian Church set this foundation of growth as a young man which has allowed me to build upon this foundation.…

What is failure? Is it being told by some else that you aren’t good enough for a part? Is it studying so hard and long for a test and not getting the grade you hoped you would receive? Failure, when pertaining to human achievement is the act of not reaching success. Failure, though, in its own right is just an idea because as Winston Churchill once said, “ Success is not final, failure is not final; it is the courage to continue that counts.” This is a lesson I learned at the end of my freshman year of high school. Freshman year wasn’t my best year academically, athletically, or socially. I wasn’t specifically failing in any of those areas, but I released at the end of year how strikingly mundane I had been when I thought I should have been exceling. I beat myself up, considering anything less than my expectations a failure. I wanted to give up and not care. The weird thing is though, is that this mishap I had didn’t detour…

The grandmother in “A Good Man Is Hard to find” considers herself morally superior to others by virtue of her being a “lady,” and she freely and frequently passes judgment on others. She claims that her conscience is a guiding force in her life, such as when she tells Bailey; I wouldn’t take my children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose in it. I couldn’t answer to my conscience if I did” (O' Connor 250). She criticizes the children’s mother for not traveling to a place that would allow the children to “be broad,” and she compares the mother’s face to a cabbage. She chastises John Wesley for not having more respect for Georgia, his home state. She also takes any opportunity to judge the lack of goodness in people in the world today. During all this, she proudly wears her carefully selected dress and hat, certain that being a lady is the most important virtue of all, one that she alone harbors (O' Connor 250).…

Failure is not something an individual can avoid. We all make mistakes because we are imperfect. Thus, we need to look at ways that help us overcome a situation we had failed at. According to “Rich in Thought: Not every Olympian Gets a Medal” by Richard Paloma, he states,” Mistakes are tools for learning- not indicators of poor ability” (paragraph 7). Whether it’s losing a soccer game, failing a test, or coming last in a race we all have failures. Three ways that I have made a mistake, but learned from it are failure’s on a school history final, the loss of my soccer game, and stealing from Target.…
