Sarah Emma Edmonds Research Paper
Sarah Emma Edmonds
Sarah Emma Edmonds was born in Canada in 1841. Her father was both physically and verbally abusive which forced her to run away from home at an early age. In fear of her father catching her, Edmonds disguised herself as a man. She cut her hair, dressed like a man, and took on her first new identity as Franklin Thompson. Still in fear that her father would catch her, by 1856 she fled to the United States. During the Civil War, she decided it a patriotic duty to enlist in the Union army. She was one of only approximately 400 women that actually successfully made the enlistment. At the time, women were not allowed in the army, but the physical evaluations were not extensive enough to catch the imposters.

There was an opening in intelligence gathering and Edmonds sought this opportunity as a spy. She studied intensely to gain valuable knowledge on military tactics, weapons, and geography. Edmonds interviewed in front of the committee and impressed them with her knowledge and was granted the position.

Edmonds responded to the slaves with: "I've always expected to come white at some time; my mother's a white woman."

She was a very successful spy and would return back to the Union only to be sent out on additional missions. She continued her duties as a spy by posing as an Irish Peddler Woman as well as a black

In 1993, she married Rusty Yates, a devout follower of Michael Peter Woroniecki’s teachings which communicated that if a mother didn’t bring her children up correctly, she and her children were doomed to hell. Andrea, convinced he was right, later referenced some of Pastor Woroniecki’s teachings in court. The fertile couple had four sons over the period between 1994 and 1999. There are many reasons for this, but mostly because of celebrities who support feminism. As you know, the best known feminist is Emma Watson. Emma Watson is a great feminist. Emma Watson has informed people of feminism and immediately correct the misconceptions about feminism. Even when she was cast in the film ' Beauty and the Beast, She filled a feminism sprit in her role. The following article is part of Emma Watson speaking at the UN ‘He For She’ Campaign. “It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, instead of two sets of opposing ideals. If we stop defining each other by what we are not, and start defining ourselves by who we are, we can all be freer, and this is what ‘He For She’ is about. It’s about freedom." This is a statement illustrating how Emma Watson is thinking about feminism. Emma Watson also suggested several books related to feminism. Among many books, I would like to introduce one book.
