Experimental Psychology
(4 Credits) Class Number 61865

Time/location: Tues - 9:10-12:00 PM meeting in Razran 312 Fri - 9:10-12:00 PM meeting in Razran 312

Course Description: This is a laboratory course designed to acquaint students with the application of experimental methods to psychological problems. Experiments are conducted in a variety of areas chosen to give students an appreciation of the range of current psychological research. Particular emphasis is given to the areas of experimental methodology, psychophysics, and learning.

Prerequisite Course Required: Psych 101 - Introduction to Psychology, Psych 107 – Statistical methods, and English 110

Learning Objectives:

1. To learn the characteristics of different research designs.
2. To learn how to design and conduct research.
3. To learn how to write an APA style manuscript. Required Textbook:

    A racist Korean War veteran and recent widower, Walt Kowalski is living in a crime ridden town in Detroit, Michigan. Walt’s once all White neighborhood has become occupied by the Hmong people.     The study focused on finding out if the Weber’s law applies to judgment of size. The present research was designed to account the area of the target as well as the distance, using as the visual concept, and the prediction made that range estimation would follow the said law. In this experiment we asked the subjects to assume a midpoint on 30 lines comprised of ten 2 inch lines, ten 4 inch line and ten 6 inch line. Then we computed each mean error. The results support Weber’s law on judgment size. 2 inch lines have lesser mean error that 6 inch line. 4 inch line has greater mean error than 2 inch line, Based on the results, we conclude that there is a relationship between the Weber’s law and visual perception of the subject.…
