Sanders V. Sanders Case Study
This officer was assigned as the Field Training Officer "FTO" for OfC Malerich.
Ofc. Malerich contacted and arrested Sanders during a traffic stop for a warrant issued by La Porte County. During the arrest Sanders was complied with officers orders and Ofc. Malerich used minimal force to place Sanders in handcuffs. Ofc.
Malerich adjusted the handcuffs and double locked them before placing Sanders in unit #53. Cpl. Gerdzos monitored Sanders while Ofc. Malerich and Ofc. Hemphill inventoried the vehicle.
After inventorying the vehicle, Ofc Malerich and this officer transported Sander to LCJ. About halfway to LCJ, Sanders stated "I think my wrist is broken." This officer asked Sanders why he thought his wrist was broken and he stated "Because

This officer observed Sanders was hold his left wrist with his right hand. This officer photographed Sanders for further documentation. Sanders was escorted to a treatment room and he was secure to the bed. Sanders complained he was in severe pain and had limiter mobility of his right hand. Sanders was scene by a doctor and stated the following "I was in the back seat of the car and adjusted my wrists and heard a popping sound" "I twisted wrong with the cuffs on" Sanders also now claimed his right shoulder was injured. Sanders also told the doctor he broke his wrist twice once in a Humvee accident and when picking up a pallet.
After the doctor left the room Sanders stated "It was not police brutality I want that to be made clear." "Its not your Fault" This officer confirmed with Sanders that his wrist had been previously been broken.
After being X-rayed the doctor advised Sanders wrist not fracture or dislocated. The doctor determined Sanders was safe for incarceration and returned to LCJ with a wrist brace. LCJ Medical staff accepted Sanders and he was placed in "H1". Officers cleared without
