Same Sex Marriage Should Gay Marriage be Legalized? Gay marriage has been a critical topic in many countries since 1924. Around the year 2000, countries such as America and the UK started approving gay marriages, although not everyone agreed with this decision. Still in 2013, homosexuals are fighting for their right to get married to someone of their same sex. People against gay marriage feel that if it was to be legalized, the importance of marriage would fade away and some people would refer to marriage in a different way. According to an article from the Human Rights Campaign, there is nothing wrong with allowing homosexuals to have the same rights as those who are heterosexual. Every individual person should have equal rights, regardless of sexuality. Gay marriage should be legalized in all states and countries, as it has been held off for too long. Three reasons why other person wants to legal the same sex marriage: First is, they have said all have a sin nature, with weaknesses to sin in particular ways and some people express their sin nature is one way, other people express theirs in other ways. Homosexuality is just one way in a fair and balanced way. Secondly, Marriage is a basic human right and an individual personal choice and the State should not interfere with same-gender couples who choose to marry. Thirdly, ending discrimination enhances the human spirit and makes all our lives better. So Should Gay Marriage be Legalized? Gay marriage has been a critical topic in many countries since 1924.     The United States’ Declaration of Independence reads, “[We] hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address furthers, “[the] [United States’] fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” But in the United States today, not all are equal. Within the majority of the United States, same-sex couples cannot be married or reap the benefits of said marriage. Marriage is basic to the recognition as equals in society and any status short of this becomes inferior, unjust and unconstitutional. Our nation cannot live up to its promise of equality and the fundamental rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, until the invidious discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is done away with. Equality under the law extends to all persons. Legalizing same-sex marriage, a recognition of basic American principles, would represent the culmination of our nation’s commitment to equal rights. Americans and those who believe and live by the words of the Declaration of Independence, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, the 14th Amendment, and in the Constitution’s guarantees of equal protection and equal dignity before the law cannot stand idle while this wrong continues. Any prohibitions on same-sex marriage, whatsoever, are entirely discriminatory. Gay rights are civil rights and all Americans should have the right to marry the person of their choice, regardless of their sexual orientation.     Same sex marriage has been a controversial topic around the world for the last few years. Legalizing this topic is a struggle, in the sense that many oppose it because of various reasons. One being religious studies, whereas it is not accepted in their religion, others being an opinion-based reason, they don’t agree because it is just not their type. There has not yet been a legitimate reason as to why this topic should not be accepted in society. Legalizing it in the United States has been taking a while, only because thirty-eight states are still keeping it illegal while the rest have approved of it. Through court rulings, and taking the popular votes, nine states in the US have legalized it. Those thirty-eight states that are keeping it illegal are going along with the DOMA, Defense of Marriage Act. This was enacted in 1996 and prevents the government from recognizing same-sex marriage, and allows each state to decide whether or not they would like to recognize it. Same sex marriage falls under the theory of Social Pathology, because these acts of same sex relationships have been put down in the structure of society of those states that don’t agree with the idea. It also adds on how some think this may be morally or biologically wrong, which is not the right way to look at it. Many republicans look at topics similar to this as morally or biologically incorrect, they do not allow them selves to be a little open minded about certain topics, such as same sex marriage. Same sex marriage in the United States has had thousands of news reports discussing on where it stands in different states of the US, and the reasons as to why people do not agree with it.
