In chapter one of the book "The Duel" written by John Ellis, many different topics of how it all went down, and how the story actually went. Alexander Hamilton had expressed his feelings about Aaron Burr. I The duel was avoidable for sure, at least I think that. The Vice President of the United States wanted Hamilton killed. Hamilton thinks Burr is a venturesome man. In the end of the duel itself in the chapter, both Burr and Hamilton had suffered "casualties".…
The Victors and Vanquished is a book that was edited by Stuart B. Schwartz in the year 2000. From reading the acknowledgements I gathered that Schwartz preparation with the book involved the help of his colleagues too. He even attended Yale University as a Professor and gave a seminar of the conquest of Mexico. However, Schwartz is not a researcher in Mexican ethnohistory, but a man whose goal is to spread new discoveries to people who enjoy culture’s past. The document that Schwartz presented the perspective of the Spaniards and Nahua during the conquest of Mexico.…

In this paper the overview, prelude, and battle of Lake Trasimene will be analyzed and discussed to understand the brilliance behind one of the greatest military tactical attacks in history. The Battle of Lake Trasimene was waged by one of the most charismatic, smart, and cunning generals of all time in Hannibal. Hannibal, the son of Hamilcar Barca of Carthage, was raised to eat, breath, and hate Rome from the beginning of his childhood. Livy states that, “From the day when he was proclaimed commander in chief, he seemed to regard Italy as his assigned field of action, and war with Rome as a duty imposed upon him.”(Livy 21.5, Line 1-3.) This inner rage that was instilled in him as a child is a driving force that can be seen throughout this battle as well as his remaining campaigns against the Romans.…
There is no shortage of "explanations" for the fall of the Roman Empire. Christianity, the decline people wanting to be apart of the community, the growth bad military, the unethical government --each of these has been proclaimed the chief cause of Rome's destruction. In fact, however, the fall of Rome was bound too happen since the government was so corrupt, in basic terms the base of the empire just fell apart and led to the social, political, economical and military issues. Each document in this essay explains a different reason based on the DBQ. Essentially, the problem was that the difference between the rich aristocrats and the poor serfs got bigger and bigger. The rich got richer as the poor got poorer. The four main issues were caused either socially, politically, economically and the military.…
Lucius Cornelius Sulla was a well-known optimate Roman general who was able to become a consul twice and a dictator for an unlimited amount of time. While he was holding the position of dictator he got to change numerous laws and establish new ones with the purpose of restoring the law and order of Rome. However, opinions in Rome at this time after his death are divided between those that believe he did a good job and those that believe his actions will cause the end of the Roman republic. As a Roman citizen, I believe his actions will unravel the downfall of the Roman republic. For me, he started his careers with good intentions, but with time he finished it with “evil deeds.” I base my opinion on a series of factors such as the fact that…
Finally, the last of Sulla's main attempts to restore the Republic of Rome were characterised by his persistent acts to curb the influence of magistrates. He tried to achieve this through his redrafting of the 'Lex Villia Annalis', increase of praetor and quaestor populations and also by depriving censors to draw up Senate roles. This allowed the political and military struggles and challenges of Rome…

The War of 1812 lasted a period of two years and eight months, and was battled in many places like Canada, and on the high seas.…

While the Gracchi brothers were motivated by the serious need for reform and equality in the Roman state, the methods they adopted led to both their political failure, and their violent, untimely ends. What was left was beginning to look less and less like the beloved Republic that brought Rome so much success as the lower class citizens began losing their ability to contribute to society. Their once beneficial rural augmentation of the Republic had become a burdensome urban problem. It is ironic to think that for all of the liberties that the poor gained during the struggle of the orders that they would eventually be denied the right to land; the one thing, with military loyalty attached, that made them most valuable because of the strength and unity they provided for the…
