Saint Leo's Accomplishments

With great faith saint Leo went thought out of the picture and led the church through tough times. While he governed the Roman Church for twenty-one years saint Leo kept the church safe during his time. He also led them to peace and security. One of his best accomplishments was that he stopped the spread of heresy in his time. Another thing he did was that he presented a clear doctrine of Christ's incarnation and successfully promoted Catholic traditions.
Leo is widely known as one of the best leaders of the ancient church. His papacy started on September 29, the year 440. Some names he was called include Saint Leo, saint Leo the Great, and Pope Saint Leo the Great. He believed the pope was in charge of leading the flock of Christ on earth and sending them on the path to heaven. He placed demands on catholics to secure true Christian beliefs. Leo's main goal to sustain the unity of the church. His other goals were doctrine, peace, and pastoral care. He also taught that sight should be replaced by faith in peoples Christian lives.

Pope St. Leo the Great died on Nov. 10, 461 but the place he was born and the date of birth is unknown. St. Peter's Basilica contains an altar that has the tomb and mortal remains of pope St. Leo the Great. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XIV in 1754. He is one of the only popes who are called "the Great." He helped keep the church together and help keep it's traditional teachings.
