Saint Francis of Assisi
St. Francis has a large impact on me. He is the patron of animals, merchants and ecology. Because Francis and I both have a connection to animals it seems only fitting that I choose him as my saint for this project.
In 1182, Pietro Bernardone, returned from France to hear that his wife had given birth to a son. Because Pietro wanted his son to be a businessman and have a love of France, he renamed his son Francesco- which is nearly the same as called him Frenchman.
In his early years, Francis enjoyed a rich and plentiful life. His father, being a successful businessman, gained a lot of wealth for his family. It is said that as a child, everyone seemed to love Francis because he was always happy, kind, and his born leadership skills seemed to play into the role that he was a popular kid. No one tried to control, or teach him.

Francis, with his father’s wealth, bought a armor set shining with gold pieces. Francis felt like a hero and left for the fight. Surprisingly though, Francis did not make it 2 days. The first night of travel, God came to Francis in a dream and told him he was going about his life all wrong! God told him to return home and that night, Francis did.
