Ensuring children are safe from harm
To work in partnership with parents and other agencies to ensure children are safe from harm. In extreme cases social services may take a child into care.

NSPCC
A charity which protects children from harm. Provides public awareness for the safety of children.
Provides help and support to families and children. Where there are cases of child abuse the NSPCC has the power to remove the child from harm.

Health Visitor
To examine and determine whether injuries were caused through neglect, abuse or accidental.
To inform other agencies of any concerns they may have.

GP
To examine and determine whether injuries were caused through neglect, abuse or accidental.

Police
CAIU (Child Abuse Investigation Unit) Works with other agencies to ensure children are free from harm.
Gather information to determine whether a criminal investigation should take place or immediate action is required.

Schools
To ensure safety and well being is maintained and vulnerable groups are safeguarded.
To plan all routines with safety in mind. To report any suspected poor practice, concerns about safe guarding to the appropriate agencies.

Psychology Service
To carry out assessment of children involved in cases of harm or abuse.
To recommend any further actions required to meet the childs needs.

Physical
Has unexplained bruise or injuries
Has bruises in the shape of an object, a hand, shoe, iron, stick etc.
Has injuries were children wouldn’t normally bruise, face, legs, bottom or torso.
Has bruising in various stages of healing especially when on different body parts.
Has difficulty sitting, complains of pain or moves uncomfortably.
Reports neglect of animals at home.
Is wary of adult contact, cringes or flinches when others get close.
