SWOT Analysis: Oakes High School
Introduction

Oakes High School has an enrollment of 190 student grades 7-12, located in Oakes, ND. Oakes is in rural, southeastern North Dakota, and has a population of 1,800 people. The athletic department provides football, volleyball, wrestling, boys’ and girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and boys’ and girls’ track. Oakes also has a co-op with Gwinner for baseball in which the team has all practices and games in Oakes, and plays as the Oakes Tornadoes, and our boys’ and girls’ cross-country compete in a co-op based in Forman, ND, competing as under the name Lidgerwood-SC-Oakes.

The SWOT analysis was conducted using my knowledge of our athletic department as the head track coach and assistant football coach, as well as personal

The first priority of the plan is to better recruit/retain quality certified staff. Because Oakes’ Negotiated Agreement requires every effort be made to fill coaching positions with certified staff, retaining teachers would aide in retaining coaches. Oakes’ superintendent’s study found the top reason teachers left was low salary/benefits, and a task force has been formed to address salaries.

The second priority of the strategic plan is the creation of a facility improvement plan at Oakes. While the most significant portion of funds went into remodeling the high school, funds have been set aside for the athletic department. A task-force is currently deciding how best to use funds, with the understanding that the combined baseball/football field needs to be re-done, and the track complex is in need of a re-surfacing.

We have also tried to improve our visibility and communication with the community by using social media. We have increased our efforts as a district, having our own app and website, as well as maintaining Facebook and Twitter pages. Staff, students, and community members are also encouraged to use the hashtag #WeAreOakes at sporting events. That being said, the athletic department simply uses the existing school social media, rather than have a separate account for the athletic

The organization that I have chosen to do my SWOT analysis on is the New Orleans Saints football team. They are among the most successful teams of this decade but not ranked very high as far as most lucrative organizations in the National Football League. They are currently ranked 23rd among the 30 active teams in the national football league. The organization was formed and became a professional football team in 1967. The team got its nickname due to its founding being on All Saints Day on November 1, 1967. The team initially one of the weaker franchises in the league. It didn’t win many games and struggled to sell out games. They have won one Super Bowl title, 5 Division Championships, and made only 9 playoff appearances in its 46 year existence. The ultimate goal of this organization is to win football games and generate revenue by selling tickets and merchandise.…

In the last few years our nation has been faced with enormous budget constraints. Nearly every state has either reduced education funding or has maintained funding at a certain level due to the economic downturn of the nation. School districts have needed to find ways to do more with less, especially in the Sunnyside Unified School District. Most of the funding in our district goes toward technology. Although technology is a big part of our 21st Century goals, over funding for one area has been detrimental for our athletic programs. This poses a problem because athletics can be an incentive for students and can encourage them to keep up academically to stay eligible to play. Another important aspect of sports is that it teaches valuable life skills such as adversity, teamwork, integrity, honesty, and responsibility. Sports also build school spirit for both athletes and non-athletes. For these reasons it is important that we keep high school athletics going for students and schools. To improve athletic funding, as an administrator reaching out to local businesses, implementing fundraising campaigns, and organizing booster clubs would be best to financially support the athletic programs at the school.…

Although ADP (Automatic Data Processing) is one of the leading providers of business outsourcing solutions, it has weaknesses that negatively affect the company. One significant aspect of ADP is that the company has clients in many foreign countries, but less than only 20% of ADP’s revenues come from other regions of the world. The company has been majorly focusing on customers’ needs here in the US, keeping their clients up to date with the current laws and regulations (their HR department) and making payroll processing convenient. What they lack, though, is a diversified geographic. It’s important to concentrate on the US operations, but other countries have specific issues that may need to be handled differently. If ADP wants to expand and take full advantage of their services, they ought to pay more attention to their geographic diversification.…
