Tom Twykers film ‘Run Lola Run’ released in 1998 celebrates modern contemporary Germany, giving a significant insight into the lives of young adults and the overall workings of society. The film distinctive images portray, the struggles and experiences presented in society at the time of the films production, through the visual elements of film. Consequently in life when individual are put under the pressure of time, we make careless decisions that affect the overall outcome. This notion is contrasted in the artwork “The persistence of Time”, composed by, ‘Salvador Dali’ in the early twentieth century, carrying similar ideas about time and chance to the film “Run Lola Run”.

This is captured through a long shot, of Lola running down a spiral set of blue/ grey stairs hinting to the audience an overall hasted and disorganised Lola. Following this a cut shot takes the audience into Lola’s place of residence extreme close ups switch between Lola and Manni hinting to the audience of the connection between the two. [Over the phone] “Help me, Lola! I don't know what to do!” as Manni seeks Lola’s help in getting 100,000 Marks to pay back the mobster Ronnie. In the First Run Lola joins Manni as he enters to rob the supermarket. The two characters are depicted through parallel camera movement, showing their close relationship as they take a last desperate chance to remain together no matter what the fate may be. In this artwork time is a prominent theme shown through the various positioning of clocks which through Einstein’s theory of relativity, Dali supposedly conveys the violent sense of time as it eats people’s lives short. In this artwork fading is used to represent a dreamer or a person that is unconscious and cannot tell what is occurring around them. This artwork revolves around a dreamers perception through the use of a salient image of creature closing its eye as it dreams, highlighting what one can observe and discover once they look outside there consciousness.
