Rumor and Gossip
GOSSIP
Good morning everyone. Today I would like to take a few minutes to speak about a topic that many of us disregard - gossip.
So what exactly is gossip? It is idle talk or rumor, especially about the personal or private affairs of others.

The Bible has nothing good to say about gossip. In Romans Ch 1, gossip is classified as one of the evils of men... it is a sin.
• Remember that one of the most important commandment in the Bible is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. But if we really love others, we will not tell stories about them or betray their trust.
• Gossip is also a way we judge others, which really isn’t our job. God is in charge of judging people, not us.
• Proverbs 26:20 – “Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.” Think back to the times you have quarreled with your friends - many a time some gossip would have been the reason. Spreading rumors not only hurts others but also destroys our credibility. Who is going to trust us with anything when they think we’ll tell everyone else?

So what do you do to stop? First, if you catch yourself gossiping , stop. Before you say something about some person, ask yourself if you would say that if the person was standing next to you. If no, then forget about it. Remember as Christians we should build others rather than tear them down. If you hear something disturbing about somebody you know, don't spread it to a third person, instead go talk to the person himself.

"A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret"- Proverbs 11:13. So from this week onwards let us start watching what we say and refrain from gossip. You will see your relationships with others improve and you will also be an example to others.

I think that there are different types of rumors. Rumors could be life changing or just a trap. I also think rumors are very important. Rumors could prepare people for upcoming events in their life. I also agree with Difonzo when he said that rumors are very prevalent. I feel like rumors spread extremely fast. All you have to do is share it with one big mouth person and the whole world knows. I strongly agree with Difonzo’s claims dealing with…

I found this quote to be a sad truth. It is disappointing to know that in this small town wherein everyone was on a friendly basis with one another, they would all turn their backs on neighbors they’ve known forever, due to the dangers of their own imagination. Once someone has my trust, I don’t think twice about helping them or confiding in them. And in return, anyone who puts their trust in me should feel safe telling me their deepest, darkest secrets. However, when that trust is broken, so is the image of that person. Then I wonder: if they would lie about something that meant a great deal to our friendship, who knows what other lies they must’ve spread? I begin to question who they are, and if they were ever my friend in the first place. It’s as if I am seeing them in a whole new light. The worst part is, no matter how hard I may try, I just can’t bring myself to talk to that person as comfortably as I had before. Now I have to think: do they have an ulterior motive, or are they honestly trying to regain the lost closeness of our friendship? I am also reminded of the power our imagination has. Giving our minds the ability roam free can plant unnecessary fear in our hearts, which, in turn, makes it harder to trust one another. Just because a friend made an honest mistake, doesn’t mean they’re going to do it again. But, in my mind I see him/her telling everybody personal aspects of my life. It can be rather hard to regain our friendship with such a terrifying image in the back of my mind. I imagine that must be…

    Psalms 1

Psalm 1 tells us that we all have the potential to go from delighting in God’s word to walking with the wicked, standing with sinners, and ultimately sitting in the seat of scoffers. Verse 1 says “blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked” as Christians our counsel is crucial in our daily walk with the Lord. It’s what we surround ourselves with, what we fill our heats and mind with. Our counsel can be many things from the people we hang out with to the music we listen to. Satan will go after our counsel and try to influence us with the logic and worldly wisdom of others. If Satan can trip us into thinking more and more like the world thinks, he has greased the skids for a slow fade. Once we heed improper counsel, we say we believe this God stuff, but the world doesn’t think we look much different. We’re standing right there with them in the way of sinners, even though we claim the narrow way of Jesus. Our…
