Rules Are There to Be Followed Without Rules Nothing Gets Done
"RULES ARE THERE TO BE FOLLOWED. WITHOUT RULES NOTHING GETS DONE."
It seems that in today 's world rules are everywhere. For instance, type a quick search for "rules" into the Google search engine and you will return over 604 million web pages that mention rules. One can find sites which outline rules on correct Internet usage to rules on ordering Mail Order Brides! Undoubtedly rules are quite important in the everyday running of our lives and yes, rules are there to be followed, but in my opinion to say, that without rules nothing gets done is akin to saying that without cutlery no one would eat. Along the same line as rules, cutlery has evolved from being quite rudimentary and has been transmogrified into an over elaborate, almost unnecessary feature at some of the more upper crust dinner parties and at the more elegant restaurants and diners where up to 14 pieces of cutlery are commonplace. This is quite similar to the whole concept of rules which have grown increasingly more complicated with the rise of big business over the last few centuries. Management is growing increasingly more worried about following correct protocol and ensuring that they follow the rules to the point of absurdity. Upon researching for this project I found many amusing anecdotes detailing the complete lunacy, with which rules are followed in various different organisations. One such example came from the Taco Bell Fast Food Chain in America. The Director of Communications was asked to prepare a memo reviewing the company 's training programs and materials. In the body of the memo one of the sentences he mentioned the "pedagogical approach" used by one of the training manuals. The following day he was told that the executive vice president wanted him out of the building by lunch. When he questioned this decision he was told that she wouldn 't stand for "perverts" working in her company. He was shown her copy of the memo, with her demand that he be fired, and the word "pedagogical"

The quote, “Because the rules are the only thing we’ve got,” is significant because it relates to the theme and foreshadows conflicts to come. Firstly, it relates to the theme intended by William Golding himself, which is that “All of mankind is inherently evil.” For example, we can see how Jack is acting more “savage-like” throughout the story. When he tried to kill a pig at the beginning of the story, he hesitated a lot. Later, he grew to leave his emotions aside and was determined to kill the pig. This is significant because we can see the same behaviour when this quote was said to him, saying “Bollocks to the rules! We're strong - we hunt,” showing how he pushed aside societies impacts and enforcements. This relates back to the theme because…

Without rules and regulations all civilization would plunge into chaos, as there would be nothing protecting us from one another’s most basic self serving instincts, and sometimes self-destructive habits. Often time’s simple rules and regulations protect us from ourselves, such as not touching a hot furnace or driving through an intersection when the light is red. If we look just at laws of the road one can quickly see how many devastating accidents would occur (and how many lives would be ruined) if no one followed the rules of the road. Without the utmost care to follow these rules, things that could easily be prevented may happen, resulting in very negative things.…

Rules and regulations. The two words which every child and even many adults hate to hear. When thinking of ‘rules’ we think of something which stands in the way of our doing something we may want to. We immediately curse the rule, not thinking in what way it may be helping us. We fervently wish that it never existed, without really being able to comprehend what the world would be like without that rule. What we, as humans, fail to understand, is that rules are made primarily to help us. We may find them annoying, aggravating, and even completely pointless, but they generally help us feel safe and so, happy.…

Karl Emil Maximilian Weber (Max Weber) was born in Erfurt, Germany on April 21, 1864. Max Weber was one of the greatest sociologists of the twentieth century, a founding "father" of modern sociology; he was also a historian and a philosopher (Asiado, 2008). Weber deeply influenced social theory, social research and the study of society itself. His wide ranging contributions gave incentive to the birth of new disciplines such as economic sociology and public administration as well as a significant change of direction in economics, political science, and religion. Weber’s most inspiring work was focused on the study of religion, bureaucracy, and rationalization (Asiado, 2008). He was assigned as professor of political economy at the University of Freiburg in 1894 and at Heidelberg University in 1897. He suffered from a mental breakdown in 1898 after his father died and did not continue his academic works until 1904 (Asiado, 2008). In 1907, Weber received a family inheritance which enabled him to continue his work as a private scholar. Max Weber died of pneumonia on June 14, 1920 (Smith, 2001).…

Someone may agree with this statement because someone might feel that life is too short to be following rules and that they should live life how they want. Although they should not do things that are extreme and are UN necessary for example killing someone would be extreme and they should not be going to these extremes. However small rules might not matter to people and so that some rules might be broken regularly. If someone was at home and there was a house rule that you have to clear the plates away and one day you didn’t want to or couldn’t because you needed to be somewhere then this would be an acceptable rule to break as there is not severe consequences…
