Ruancy Problem and How to Overcome It
TRUANCY PROBLEM AND HOW TO OVERCOME IT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lately , there have been a lot of truancy cases involving the students from our school and this is worrying the school administrators as well as the parents.

It is already a disciplinary problem that has been going on for years.

Many students who play truant are seen in cybercafes and shopping complexes .

I think we should work hand in hand to overcome this problem .Otherwise, it will tarnish the school image and reputation .

But why do students play truant ?

I think one of its reasons is because of peer influence. Students who are involved in this truancy problem are usually together friends who have discipline problems. They would follow their friends playing truant and having fun after being influenced by their friends .

Moreover, students are also effected by their disinterest in learning . Some students who have low academic performances at school are usually losing their interest in learning
And students who are playing truant are often being scolded or humiliated by their teachers in front of their classmates . Hence their interest to be in classes would be greatly affected.

What is even worse, the truancy cases are coming from those effected by lack of attention from their parents . Some of their parents have to work all day and night to find money for their family and they do not have sufficient time to spend with their children This makes their children to think that they can do anything they like .

I think stress is also another reason on why truancy happens. Some students who are often being bullied in their schools are not able to concentrate in their classes anymore. The problems at school plus those at home will surely bring alot of stresses makes them want to escape from this unruliness.

But what can be done to stop this truancy problem?

the students have to be monitored by teachers at their school. Discipline teacher has to take responsibility in this case by giving warnings to them or talk their parents about the problem.

School administrators also must play a role to send all this problematic students for counselling making them realise the effect of mixing with wrong companies

The school administrators should also hold some interesting school activities that will attract students to attend school and stop playing truant .

They can also organize awareness campaign for the students at school to prevent the truancy problems occuring and hold some motivational talks . I hope the truancy problem which is happening in many schools especially from the last classes can be cut down

Also, a quite common reason for students to miss their classes or don't attend school at all is often caused by the lack of gas money. Gas prices are getting up constantly, and it's tricky to have a social life without all of your money evaporating from your wallet. Sometimes being a student does pay off. Even though the difficulty of coming to class, most college students try their best to do so, and it’s harder for those who don’t receive any help. These are some conflicts that make students feel forced to miss their classes. Bad college attendance may then increase the…

Dropping out of school is common for children in the world. The children feel as if the problem is that they have, will stop them from accomplishing the goals that they want to achieve in life. Children drop out every year and think about what they could have done or want to do to go back and try to finish. There isn’t any single issue that makes children drop out of school, because every person is different. There are many solutions to the problems, but the key is to watch for warning signs to stop it from escalading to the point where dropping out is the solution.…

After the research, truancy offenders in the end had more incarcerations and more probations than other offenders. By understanding the severe consequences of truancy offenses, solid intervention programs to avoid or decrease truancy cases are critically needed. Not by surprise, another finding was that youth with disabilities were more probable to be referred for truancy. One of the main reasons for truancy is the hard time with school, especially poor performance, and the current results sustain the view that children may use truancy to separate themselves from what they see as an intimidating environment (Zhang, Wilson, Katsiyannis, Barrett, Ju, and Wu, 2010, p.…

Most people can recall the scene in the movie “Farris Bueller’s Day Off” where he concocts and entire story and set up just so that he can stay home from school that day. His mother buys the fake fever induced by a hot blow dryer and the automated puking sounds coming from the bathroom, however there are parents who deal with these hysterics almost everyday. A case study that I found in an article by Nicole Setzer, Ph.d., and Amanda Salzhauer, MSW at the University of Child Study Center summarizes a young girl named Rebecca’s school refusal case. Rebecca is eight years old and has always had some issues about going to school. She is now in third grade and after only two months of school so far this year her problems have significantly worsened. Almost everyday she will try some sort of tactic to stay home from school whether it be throwing a fit so that she is late for the bus, or after arriving at school constantly complaining about a stomach ache or a head ache. The study goes on to say that her mother picks her up from school about twice a week, Rebecca is taken home where she usually spends the rest of the day watching TV or playing with her toys. (Kearney and Silverman 1993) This is not considered truancy from school but however the growing trend of developing school refusal behavior.…

One major issue that schools are currently facing and seeing little or no improvement with is effectively dealing with student absenteeism and truancy. My school, SMK S.T Xaviers is no exceptional school from this problem. Truancy according to Oxford Advance Learners’ Dictionary is ‘the practice of staying away from school without permission’. Teachers have been trying very hard to motivate their pupils to come to school every day to study and enjoy coming to school even to the extent of caning those who play truant every now and then. They also explain and remind them that truancy may lead to bullies, snatch thieves, robbery, cigarettes, drugs, gangsterism and crime but it has fallen into deaf ears. I realize that the issue cannot be handled and solved therefore I agree that students in school like to play truant in school.…

Truancy is any intentional unauthorized or illegal absence from compulsory schooling. In Malaysia truancy problem is a phenomenon among primary and secondary school students. According to Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, reported in The News Strait Times article entitled “Study on truancy - Education Ministry” dated January, 17 2012, "A total of 110,218 students were involved in disciplinary problems. Of that figure, 72,873 were from secondary level and 37,345 from primary schools," students were involved in disciplinary problems are rising. Reported in The News Strait Times a survey conducted by the ministry, 58.85 per cent of truancy cases last year involved students in rural areas, as compared with 41.15 per cent in cities. In my opinion, actions that should be imposed by the Ministry of Education to solve the problem of truancy among Malaysian school students are improve the academic approach, law enforcement authorities and organize talk or campaign.…
