Rose For Emily Isolation
A Rose for Emily was American author William Faulkner’s first short story to be published in a national magazine. It went on to become one of the most anthologized American short stories. Miss. Emily is the main character. After her father, had passed away for at least three days he is not dead. Mid-thirty she has already committed a murder.
Theme:
This story “A Rose for Emily” shows isolation from her townspeople and the lawmakers. I don’t think Emily had a choice in her isolation due to her family keeping her away from most. Her father raised her to believe she was better than others, but she could never fit in the town and becomes isolated. As a living monument to the past, she represents people wish to respect and honor. Emily is also a burden and nursing eccentricities that others cannot understand. She shows how out of touch with reality when she refuses to have metallic numbers affixed to the side of her house.
Emily is an only child. It also doesn’t say anything about her mother. I thought it was strange that through the story her mother was never said. …show more content…
By using this technique, Faulkner forces the reader to notice or feel the intensity of the feelings and emotions gave off by the story. For example, Homer Barron was Emily's love interest. Homer is declared, but he seems to have little or no role in the story ‘s right meaning. The idea of Emily being unhappy and being sheltered life plus it was wrong for the townspeople to chatter and assume things about Emily was foreshadows Faulkner Homer was the antagonist makes sense because he had distressed with Emily and was going to leave her like her father did, the unhappiness drove her to commit murder. The foreshadowing that Faulkner uses represents the past and present and how they have progressed. Miss Emily still signified and stood for the principles of the South, but the newer generation watched and allowed her to lounge in this
