Fun in the Upper Peninsula

It was in the middle of the summer when my mom started planning a trip to Pictured Rocks in the Upper Peninsula. When it had finally came to the day before we left, I was very excited to start packing so we could leave the next day. My mom and dad told me and my sister, “Don’t pack too much.”
I said, “That might not happen, but we will try.”
We still went a little overboard. The next day we put all of our things in the truck and headed up for an adventure. Eventually, after what seemed like forever, we could finally see the beautiful and tall Mackinaw Bridge. It took a pretty long time to get over, and I was a bit nervous, but it was worth it. The

After about another hour, we arrived at the locks and boarded a big two story boat. Our captain sounded the horn as we casted our stern line and off we went. The sound startled me and reminded me of a fog horn. Our captain took us through the U.S. Locks then we returned on the other side of the border through the Canadian Locks. The U.S. Locks are much bigger than the Canadian Locks, therefore, bigger ships can go through the U.S. side and smaller boats have to go through the Canadian side. Our boat ride was over and then we headed to Paradise, Michigan, to our first hotel. My Mom, dad, sister, and I all went to go get something to eat across the street. It was getting late, therefore, we headed back to the hotel. Despite the time, we changed into our bathing suits and went to the pool to go swimming. Then it was time to get some …show more content…
That day we checked into our campsite in Christmas, Michigan. After we got done setting up our campsite, we went sightseeing along Lake Superior. The water was as blue as the sky on a sunny day. It was a beautiful sight. The water was frigid when we waded across the sand bars and the hem of our shorts touched the water. Next, we went to check in to meet up with a group to go kayaking. Once we got to where we were going, we got on all of our gear to keep us safe and dry, then we set sail. It was hard paddling at first, but then we got used to it. I was with my mom and my sister was with my dad. We went into this cave like thing where a rock fell onto the main rock and made a tunnel. The water was hitting the rocks and the color from the minerals was coming off when we wiped the rock with our hand. We used the rust color as war paint on our faces. When it was time to go back to our starting point, we turned our kayak around and went right over a sunken ship. I was very curious to see it. The sunken ship was really cool, but scary. I thought when we were looking at it our kayak would tip because we were both leaning over the same side. Once we got back to shore, we went fishing. The we headed back to our campsite and cooked our dinner over the fire. That was a fun day, but I was ready to hit the

It was faster and deeper than I imagined. The pappin ferry that we took couldn't hold the number of people we had in our wagon train. It almost tipped over, but we still lost some stuff. Mary Ellen, Jasper, Mary, and I jumped into the fast moving current and saved as much as we could. In the end we couldn't save the coffee. That left us with bad water.…

Rosa Parks was told by a white passenger to move and let him sit in that seat. Rosa refused to get up and was then arrested. This was an act of Moral Courage because Rosa was doing the right thing even though there was a punishment. She knew that there has to be a change in the unfair society, so she stood up and started the Montgomery Bus Boycott with this act of courage. There would have never been civil rights for African American people without this act of moral courage by Rosa…

Racism has always been an issue in the United States. African Americans were always treated badly and were denied basic rights like eating at a certain restaurant or even sitting at certain place in a bus. However on December 1st one woman had had enough of the unfair treatment and finally took a stand. Rosa Parks refused to move from her seat and give it to a white bus rider and was arrested. Her arrest ignited a bus boycott lead by Martin Luther King and for 381 days African Americans carpooled, walked, or found other ways of transportation to get around town. Rosa’s dream was to see racial harmony and after taking a stand she made her dream come true. She is still significant to our society because it shows that one person and a simple action can make a change.…

I fell on the boat ramp laughing my tail off. Finally, we got our boats in the water and started packing them down with our supplies. I have never seen so much supplies for a one day trip. We had to make about five trips to get everyone down there and our supplies on the sandbar which is called Little Sugar Loaf. We had about 13 people on that sandbar we were staying that night. We started out by finding a spot and setting up our tents. It didn't take me that long to set up my tent. I mostly helped other set up their tents and sleeping bags and other supplies. There were about four kids that had to carry wood for the fireplace. While others were setting up the grill and lights for tonight. The sun was so hot I was about ready to get in the cool muddy water. I got my chores done for the tents and my buddies and I went swimming in the…

We said our final goodbyes to our house and started driving towards California with our cramped car. Beforehand my parents planned some places where we were going to go to along the way such as going to places we been never before, but eventually in about a week we would reach California! My mom and dad said that “we will definitely be going to Niagara Falls and Mount Rushmore and the rest of the things we will figure out along the way.” We went through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada. To start, the first interesting place we stopped at was Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada. At Niagara Falls we listened to the sound of the water rushing and the crisp and clear sound of the water. Our family took pictures in front of the waterfall with the water flying in our faces. “The waterfall is so pretty with that rainbow,” my family said in awe. At Niagara Falls the water was rushing down so fast you could hear the clear and crisp swooshing sound of the water. Niagara Falls is a waterfall that formed about 12,000 years ago and in the 1900’s it became a popular place for daredevils to do stunts and for people to go on honeymoons. On the way to our next stop we stopped by Notre Dame College in Indiana. Our family quickly looked at the campus and football field…
