Lessons I have learned from this interview with Ronald G. Spaeth, as a graduate student in healthcare administration by reading about Mr. Spaeth’s education, awards and career accomplishments. For instance, Spaeth received a Gold Medal Award for his outstanding contributions as a leader in healthcare. I have learned that receiving a great award can start a successful career. Though, receiving an award is a part of career success. Completing an earned degree in business administration, and/or another Master’s degree is another great start for a professional successful career. Mr. Speath’s career goals were met by his educational background and work experience. I have learned that career success takes effectively working with students, leaders…
As a result, of these activities and assistance Reagan was successful all four years of high school; but, especially during her (Reagan) senior year in high school. These traits such as: commitment and self-motivation that Reagan learned in high school are continuing into her (Reagan) college education at Columbia College.…
With hearing the constant news of politics and the presidential race for the oval office, United States citizens are in the process of choosing a presidential candidate with the best leadership qualities. The choice of the next President will impact not only the political and economic future of the United States, but more importantly, the rest of the world. A strong leader may be able to keep peace and prevent war. However, the inability of the United Nations to keep rogue nations, like Iran and North Korea, from destabilizing their neighbors will fall on the leadership of the new President and the arbitration of Congress. To find the unique leadership qualities that have had such a long term impact on societies, a study…
George W. Bush, the son of former President George H.W. Bush and Barbra Bush, was born July 6, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut. He grew up with a great leader as a father. He was taught many great leadership skills and was brought up with great ideals. From a very young age George W. Bush exhibited leadership qualities. He first attended college at Yale and then Harvard after graduating. These schools are known for being very prestigious and are well recognized. When George was in college he was part of a fraternity. In his pledge members were asked to name the fifty some members. The first few had named no more then ten, but when President Bush was asked he named all fifty. This showed that President Bush has leadership qualities; he was determined…
A. Ronald Reagan was the 40th President of the United States. He was first elected to be the Governor of California in 1966, and served two consecutive terms. At the 1968 and 1974 Republican National Conventions, he was considered a possible Presidential candidate. He won the Republican nomination in 1980, where he then ran against incumbent President Jimmy Carter in the election. (About History) This was about the time of the end of the Cold War, the Hostage crisis, and also the economy was worsening, which helped Reagan win the election with 489 electoral votes. (Wiki) He was nominated and ran again for a second term in 1984 against Democrat Walter Mondale. There was a large economic boom in 1983, lower inflation, reduced taxes, and less unemployment, many things that led to Reagan winning the election with 525 electoral votes. (Miller)…
To begin, we start off with the famous President Abraham Lincoln who was known to have many qualities making him a great leader at the time. "A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things that renew humanity,” (Buddha). This was said over 2 thousand years ago by Buddha; a person who rose to power by his leadership skills. He had the essential attributes of a leader. The qualities that make a tremendous leader are honesty and generosity to their people.…
Presidential greatness has many aspects, but it primarily means demonstrating effective, inspiring, visionary, and transformational leadership in times of great challenge and crisis. There have been many effective presidents, but there have only been a few great presidents because simply being effective and successful does not make one a great president. The distinction between presidential effectiveness and presidential greatness is that presidential greatness can only be attained when the exceptional leadership, visionary, and transformational accomplishments of a president have a long-term positive impact and change the course of American history.…
Although research has shown that the presence of specific traits alone do not ensure successful leadership, it has been proven that successful historical leaders share certain key traits. According to Shelley Kirkpatrick and Edwin Locke, “leaders do not have to be great men or women by being intellectual geniuses or omniscient prophets to succeed, but they do need to have the "right stuff" and this stuff is not equally present in all people” .…
I am writing you to nominate President Ronald Reagan for your Person of the Decade award. He was the 40th President of the United States, serving two terms in office. I think he was an excellent President helping to make great strides against communism during his Presidency. He was definitely commendable in his 1987 West Berlin speech, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall”. It had stood as a symbol of the divisiveness between Communism and Democratic freedom there between East and West Germany. Reagan definitely saw the end of the Cold War during his presidency and therefore prevented nuclear war.…
Franklin D. Roosevelt spent his early years at his family home in Hyde Park. Since he was tutored at home and traveled extensively with his family, Roosevelt did not spend much time with others his age. In 1896, at age 14, Roosevelt was sent for his first formal schooling at the prestigious preparatory boarding school, Groton School in Groton, Massachusetts. While at Groton, Roosevelt was an average student.…
Famous leaders include Army General George S. Patton, Jr., U. S. Navy Captain David Marquet, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Pope Francis to name a few. As a transformational leader, General Patton acted as a teacher and mentor; furthermore, he was people oriented, knew the strengths, weaknesses, and experiences of his soldiers, earned their trust and cooperation, and motivated them to work together as a team to accomplish the mission. Trustworthiness, empathy, and cooperation are just a few of the qualities necessary for a responsible leader that Simon Sinek presents in his latest book, Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t. Sinek utilizes military analogies, human biology, and…
Leadership is defined as a social influence process in which an individual seeks the participation of subordinates in an effort to research organizational goals. (Kinicki-Kreitner p.346) Being a leader in today environment is even challenging than ever. This is due to the pressure for increased transparency due to corporate greed, government pressure and individual corruption. There are great leaders throughout our history such as Martin Luther King, George Washington, and Jack Welsh. However, great leaders don’t have to be good. Barbara Kellerman notes that “leaders are like the rest of us are: trustworthy and deceitful, cowardly and brave, greedy and generous”. (Kinicki-Kreitner p.346) Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin are examples of great leaders that use their influence for their own personal gain. Kinicki-Kreitner states that “to assume that all leaders are good is to be willfully blind (p.346). There are many different leadership styles and different leadership theories that individuals and corporations use. My personal leadership style is based on the Situational Theory. It is also transactional and adaptive compassionate and open.…
Two famous writers have presented us with opposite theories about the influence of leaders. Thomas Carlyle wrote most passionately: "Universal History, the history of what man has accomplished in this world, is at bottom the History of the Great Men who have worked here." Heroes teach us right and wrong, he said; heroes give us great inventions and discoveries. It is the great few who transform society; the multitude follows them. Modern democracy, he believed, has produced millions of fools who vote, other men who go to Parliament and palaver, and, inevitably, the few who act.…
Great leaders have been known to change the world. These are the people that shape our universe and create hope for better days. Some of us are born to be leaders and some us are taught. Everyone wasn’t born to lead, there has to be followers. It’s important to know what our positions are. The greatest leaders have all had one thing in common, persistence. They never gave up on…
