Romeo and Juliet by, William Shakespeare is considered by many to be one of the greatest love stories of literature. There are many debates as to whether or not Romeo and Juliet are truly in love or are they just rebellious adolescents. According to the definition of rebellious, it has been defined as “ showing a desire to resist authority, control of conventions.” It is evident that Romeo and Juliet display similar characteristics, therefore, can be rebellious adolescents. Throughout Asimov’s Guide to Shakespeare he continously mentions that the two demonstrate lustful feelings.

    In modern times, teenagers are often seen as irrational and irresponsible. Some would argue that this is because the brain is not yet fully developed or because of emotional challenges. Whatever the cause, in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, teenage irresponsibility and irrational thinking is put at extreme, which ultimately causes the death of the star-crossed lovers. The friar is often blamed for the couple’s death because it is though that he falsely led the couple down a path that was far more dangerous than needed.
