Romeo And Juliet Monologue Analysis
Romeo: They won’t find me here. [Turns around] Oh what a coincidence to see my love here too. She is so beautiful and her eyes shine brighter than a rapper’s gold chains. I will definitely tell my homies about her. Wait! I can’t. Our families will find out. I have get her snapchat before I get caught. What should I say though? She speaks, but she says nothing. [Sighs] Juliet: Oh mah god :(

Romeo: She speaks! Here’s my chance. Just do it. What if she doesn’t like me? Juliet: Oh Romeo! I don’t care if you’re a Montague. Forget about your father and change your name. If you won’t, just swear that you will love me.

Romeo: [Aside] Should I keep listening, or should I speak up. It is very creepy of me to be here listening to her.

You are Romeo and not a Montague. Changing a name for something does not make it change itself.

Romeo: Oh Juliet. Call me anything you want but love me for me.

Juliet: AHH! What are you doing here, you creep?! Who are you??

Romeo: I can’t say because I hate it. It is your enemy.

Juliet: Are you Romeo, the Montague? You could be put in jail if security finds you here.

Romeo: They can’t stop me from loving you.

Juliet: I rather not see you get caught.

Romeo: You not loving me is far worse than me getting caught.

Juliet: I think I’m in love with you but do you love me too? Am I too easy to win?

Romeo: Oh I swear by the lord of memes.

Juliet: Don’t swear by the lord of memes. Memes don’t last very long. Don’t swear at all. I don’t feel like making this official right now. Goodnight <3.

Romeo: How could you leave me so unsatisfied? I want to hear how much you love me.

Juliet: I love you more than dank memes.
I love you more than Kanye loves Kanye.
I love you more than Joe Biden loves Obama.
Oh no I think my nanny is calling me. Stay here.

The issue of forbidden love reaches its peak when Juliet is forced to marry Paris against her wishes since, without the knowledge of her family, she has secretly married Romeo. Juliet’s dialogue ‘Oh bid me leap, rather than marry Paris...’ symbolises that Romeo is Juliet’s only one and that nothing at all could break that special bond. An example of dedication of their love is when Friar Laurence tells Juliet that Romeo is dead. Juliet is shocked; she doesn’t know what to do. Her only love is dead. Juliet’s dialogue “What’s here? A cup, closed in my true love’s hand? Poison, I see, hath been his timeless end. O churl, drunk all, and left no friendly drop. To help me after? I will kiss thy lips. Haply some poison yet doth hang on them, to make me die with a restorative shows that Juliet instantly knows that the only way she can go on is to kill herself so she can be with Romeo in another life.…

My bosom’s lord sits lightly in his throne, and all this day an unaccustomed spirit lifts me above the ground with cheerful thoughts. How sweet is love itself possessed when but love’s shadows are so rich in joy!”…

Shakespeare depicts love that can empower one to challenge the convention and the tradition in the world in which they live. In the patriarchal society, it is unthinkable for the daughter to defy her parents. Juliet goes against all social restraints when she contradicted her parents with, “I will not marry yet; and when I do, I swear it shall be Romeo.” Even her father’s outburst of rage in “young baggage, disobedient wretch!” did not change her plans. And in the world where names mean more than just a way to address oneself, she advises Romeo to "Deny thy father and refuse thy name… And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.’’ Young Juliet experiences love that gives her courage to challenge all that is expected of a young unmarried lady of noble background. Therefore her love liberates her from the bondage of the social mores of the time.…
