Romeo And Juliet Miscommunication
Have you ever thought about how “Romeo and Juliet” would have ended if communication was effectively used throughout the whole play? The outcome of the play would have been significantly different, and most, if not all, of the characters would still be alive. Every major event that happens is because of a miscommunication or no communication at all. In fact, the whole play is based on miscommunication. The feud between the two families causes major problems and forms the whole plot of the play. The Montagues and the Capulets are wealthy, well-known citizens of Verona. The two families are in a long-lasting quarrel. In the prologue, we learn they don’t even remember what they are bickering about. This is when Romeo and Juliet meet, fall in love with each other, and ultimately decide to get married. Instead of discussing their feelings with their parents, they decide to secretly get married. In fear of disapproval from their feuding parents. With a little communication, their parents might have agreed to their marriage, or at least considered it. At the end of the play, when the fathers find out that their children have killed themselves to be together, they offer amends and tributes to each other's children. If only they would have done this earlier, their children would still be alive. There are countless instances of miscommunication in “Romeo and Juliet.” One last example I want to mention is when the Fryer couldn’t reach Romeo to tell him that Juliet had not passed and he had a plan. He states, “I could no longer send it—here it is again—nor get a messenger to bring thee, So fearful were they of infection.” Since Friar Lawrence could not communicate his plan, Romeo ended up hearing that Juliet was dead and then proceeded to act upon his emotions. That's when he bought sketchy poison and decided to kill
