Romeo And Juliet Character Analysis

Romeo and Juliet are both very complex characters and represent many qualities that people may have and some that the reader may be able to relate to on a personal level. These qualities in both the characters are important because Shakespeare chose them for a reason and it builds these characters to create such an entertaining story for an audience.
First just focusing on Romeo and the qualities of his character some obvious ones are how passionate and sensitive he is. He also shows impulsivity and at times how immature he can be, however most times when he lashes out or makes a rash decision it’s coming from his passion and how much he cares about the people he loves. Throughout the play we get to see Juliet sort of change as she goes from a naive, obedient child to a determined, strong and capable young women. I believe that Juliet is a much more mentally tough person than Romeo and demonstrates just as much if not more bravery and dedication than Romeo. One quality that both Romeo and Juliet share is how passionate they are and the great lengths they go to for one another and how much they care for each other. Juliet shows loyalty as when the idea of marrying Paris is first proposed she agrees to meet him and see what he’s like to please her family, and then later after she has secretly married Romeo she displays her loyalty to him by refusing to marry Paris on two days notice. Even though Juliet is head over heels for Romeo she notices how he romanticizes things and how strong headed he can be, even after he murders her cousin she doesn’t just blindly follow him instead she makes the choice to let her love for Romeo guide her. Time and time again Juliet shows how strong of a person she is and that she can do things herself. Some things that I think he’s trying to tell us here are as follows. The ability to be mentally tough in difficult situations and push through, find new solutions and never give up can have numerous benefits. Another is that love and compassion are very powerful feelings that can drive us to do things we would never dare to do in order help those we care. Something else to go along with that is how these emotions can sometimes get the best of us and take over to the point where we’re not thinking, There’s so many more qualities in characters throughout the story and this is just the tip of the iceberg of what Shakespeare was trying to
