Romeo And Juliet Alternate Ending Essay
Escaping society and all its rigmarole was a difficult task, especially once you’d accepted an invitation. ‘’ London hasn’t changed.’’ James muttered under his breath while standing in the shadows getting some much needed fresh air on the balcony. Open double doors allowed him to keenly observe guests attending the Hargrave ball. A ball he himself regretted attending. Lifting a lit cigar to his lips he blew out another puff of cloudy smoke that hung thick in the air creating a heady mist.
Truthfully still surprised to have received an invite, Lady Hargrave only invited those possessing rank, wealth or both and he’d only been back in town two days. A title secured his invite, one he didn’t want. Up until eight months ago, he was simply a second

If you don’t find a husband this season you’ll marry me and let’s face it with four previously unsuccessful seasons behind you, it's highly likely you won’t find anyone again.’’ He stated smugly.
As much as James hated to admit it the man, Rollo, had a point, the woman’s chances were slim at best by now.
‘’ There are plenty second son's desperate enough for a dowry like mine. Lord knows I’ll marry a butcher, baker or candlestick maker before you Rollo.’’ She bit back writhing uncontrollably.
Rollo laughed and must’ve seen something in her eyes that alarmed him because he stilled unnaturally. James watched on unable to leave now he’d seen the full force of the man’s temper. Suddenly he grabbed the woman’s face and yanked it close to his own. ‘’ You stupid woman. You’re the daughter of an Earl, do you really think your father is going to let you marry anyone that might disgrace him? No. I’m your only option.’’
‘’ I’ll run away.’’ She blurted out.
‘’ Oh really? And do what? You’ve got very little money and no skills. You’ll be dead or a dockside whore within a week.’’ Rollo declared, letting go of her chin with a push so her head crashed into the brick wall that trapped

“It all started the day your mother arrived in Maetae from Ce,” said Ero. “King Kahl informed me that day I was to be her guard, and I took the oath forthwith. And your mother… She was so beautiful. She is still. But that day, I recall it in such vivid detail: Her pure white dress with adorned with blue stitching at the bottom, the way hair was pinned up into a beautiful twist, and how a few waves escaped and framed her face… I’m sorry. You’re her son and probably don’t want to hear that.”…

When I realized that I could rid myself of this wretched lot of ungrateful women, I eagerly devoted myself to the task of matchmaking. I inquired of the milkman and messenger of any news regarding eligible bachelors every chance I could. I was careful not to tell the messenger that Drew was seeking a husband as I had already suffered from the mistake of recommending him for her to my stepmother. The woman told me that it was almost laughable that I would think I would have an inkling as to what a suitable match might be. Sadly, she was certainly…

iRomeo and Juliet were written by William Shakespeare. The play is about two star crossed lovers who are born into two different families who have an ancient grudge. This leads to both Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. The play has strong violence and conflict involved in it. Shakespeare uses different types of conflict throughout the play. The Prologue shows that there will be conflict in the play when it mentions, ‘From ancient grudge... Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.’ The word Civil makes me think that people who are not involved in the grudge still suffer pain. This gives you a quick impression of what the play is going to be about.…

Modern day society promotes individualism and self-responsibility. Yet somehow, fate exists as an intrinsic part of many people’s lives. This paradox in mindset shows how logical reasoning, common sense, and science bow down for the supernatural force that guides one through life, fate, for better or worse. Such is seen clearly in the dialogue and actions of the characters in Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William Shakespeare. Taking place in 14th century Verona, Romeo and Juliet describes the tragedy that ensues when two feuding families’ children fall in love, but fate ensures both of their suicides. The villainous acts of fate prove that fate makes one helpless against decisions in life, belief in fate becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, and…

I heard the murmur of their voices as I crossed the hall; the newly wedded couple had just sat down for dinner together, they had arrived only an hour ago. I entered the room to see Rebecca, her dark ash-brown hair, flowing like silk as it trailed down behind her dainty, gentle shoulders. I just couldn’t help to think, what kind of woman she was. I set down the plates, not speaking a word to either Sir or the new Madam; I was not in a position to talk to either of them, as that was not my responsibility. Madame, was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She seemed so comfortable being herself. She was so lovely, so accomplished, so amusing. This was my first meeting with her, and already I was in awe of her. She had the perfect breeding to be Sir’s wife, she was incredibly beautiful and as time went I on, I realised she had the brains and confidence to outwit anyone. She was entirely different to the second Mrs De Winter.…

Oh, my God! That worries me so. Suppose I think I’m in love with a man and I marry him and it turns out I’m not in love with him. What does being in love mean? I wish I didn’t think so much. I wish to heaven I didn’t. Everything bad that happens to a girl I begin to worry it will happen to me. All night I’ve been worrying. Part of the time I’ve been worrying that I’d end an old maid like Aunt Sarah, and part of the time I worry that I’ll fall in love with someone like Syd and defy Papa and run off with him and then realize I made a mistake and part of the time I worry… that what happened to Sibyl Thomas will happen to me and.. .(A pause) Could what happened to Sibyl Thomas ever happen to you? I don’t mean the dying part. I know we all have to die. I mean the other part - having a baby before she was married. How do you think it happened to her? Do you think he loved her? Do you think it was the only time she did? You know… (A pause.) Old, common, Anna Landry said in the girls’ room at school, she did it whenever she wanted to, with whomever she wanted to and nothing ever happened to her. And if it did she would get rid of it. How do women do that? I don’t trust Anna Landry and I don’t know who else to ask. Can you imagine the expression on Mama’s face, or Aunt Lucy’s or Mrs. Cookenboo’s if I asked them something like that? (A pause.) Anyway, even if I knew I would be afraid to do something like that before I got married for fear God would strike me dead. (A pause.) Aunt Sarah said that Sibyl’s baby dying was God’s punishment of her sin. Aunt Lucy said if…

    Roxana and Marriage

Roxana defines marriage as “giving up [one’s] liberty” (p 2289) and reveals that her main objection to marrying the merchant involves her fear of giving up her money. In acknowledging this rational fear the merchant assures her he will not take her money, but Roxana explains that this “independence” is only an illusion - she will be an upper servant at best, always answerable to her husband. I enjoyed her ship analogy, where she explains that while the merchant will let her steer, he is ultimately in control of the ship. This is only one of the numerous occasions in which Roxana proves her ability to see past the ‘cons’ of marriage. Towards the end she makes another strong argument for not marrying the merchant, explaining that for a woman to marry the man she was once a mistress to is to “preserve the crime” forever – her husband will always berate her for it when they are no on good terms and her children will hate her. Roxana clearly has not been fooled by the arguments men make for marriage.…
