What is strategy?
Business Strategy is a long term plan that is created to achieve a particular set of goals and/or objectives. However, strategic management includes many elements that are essential in achieving your business strategy such as: decision making, taking into account short-term and long-term perspectives, as well as analyzing internal and external factors.

What strategic problems does Robin Hood have?
There are several strategic issues that Robin Hood needs to address very soon. In my opinion, the most pressing issue is that he has too many men and too few resources to sustain them. This has happened because their numbers have intimidated travelers so much that they have found alternate routes around the forest and at the same time their numbers have depleted the natural resources of the forest. At this point it is obvious that Robin Hood needs a new strategy since the way they have operated in the past cannot be sustained due to the changes in external factors.

What is the role of the organizational leader as strategist and articulator of global goals?
In this situation Robin Hood is the head of the operation and as such is the organizational leader who is burdened with the tasks of strategizing as well as articulating the goals of the set strategy. As such, Robin should set goals, figure out who his stakeholders of his operation are, and then communicate the mission and actions needed to achieve the set goals.

What are some issues in this organization’s external environment?
As stated in my answer to question 2, the most influential external factors that have changed are the fact that travelers, especially the ones with a lot to lose, have decided to avoid the forest when traveling. Also, the growing numbers of the Merrymen have depleted the natural resources in the forest and it is getting hard to find provisions to sustain the group. In addition to this, the Sheriff has become more organized and has learned Robin’s strategy and it

    Robin Hood is facing numerous problems and issues, but I think the most pressing problem is the fact that the band of Merrymen has far outgrown the available resources in Sherwood Forest. Robin Hood’s faith in succeeding by strength in numbers is quickly becoming a contributor to their downfall.
